Very very very interesting. Tools of a #1 pick. Production doesnt match. Mostly because he is inaccurate and makes dumb reads.

Maybe its poor QB coaching at Vtech?

I wouldnt touch him because he strikes me as another Skeleton, Lindley, Derek Anderson type. Hose for an arm. Inaccurate and mentally soft.

But if BA likes him? Likley wont cost upwards of a 5th round pick. Then he is a worthwile project.

But really I think they need to add a quality high round guy in addition to Thomas. A guy like Metterberger in the 2nd would be the better play IMO and then go for Thomas as UDFA?

I would love to see him at the tail end if the draft . Started his college career at TE if I remember correctly. Size, arm and athleticism make him a good developmental prospect. Accuracy definately needs improvement.

Pros

  • Has experience playing under center and shotgun as well
  • Rare combination of speed, size, and strength
  • One of the strongest arms in the draft, high velocity throws are not an issue
  • Good play action fake
  • Has a beautiful deep ball, but inconsistent with the accuracy on deep throws too often.
  • Moves in the pocket well, senses pressure while keeping his eyes down the field. When the pressure is coming heavy and has no one to throw to, Thomas knows when to tuck it and pick up some yards.
Cons

  • Played bad against the top two teams he faced, Alabama and UCLA, going a combine 9 for 38 with an interception.
  • Holds on to the ball too long, indecisive instead of letting it rip.
  • Throws into contested coverage, leading to far too many interceptions.
  • Settles for the check-down when there are receivers open further down the field.

He seems like a reach but he is way bigger and more athletic than all of these guys. 4.6 40 and huge 10 7/8 hands. BA is a Vatech alum so who knows.

One of those guys who looked All American getting off of the team bus. He actually got worse every year than he was the previous year. He is Colin Klein Lite and where is Klein now. He flat out sucks.

I don't like him at all. Looked absolutely terrible in the Senior Bowl My choice is Zach Mettenberger LSU in the 2nd round (like Arizona's Finest).

It might be the case that since Arians has ties to VA Tech and the coach at VA Tech in an effort to help Logan reached out and Arians said what the heck... with a chance to visit a place he appreciates :)

Somebody is going to take a chance on him, probably earlier than expected. I think his skill set is similar to Kaepernick.

We might want to keep in mind that BA has time on his side as for the QB position . If he finds a youngster that has high potential , but needs some coaching up (Steve McNair Titans) he can sit behind a vet for two seasons . I recall that the Titans invested a high pick in McNair , and still sat him for two seasons .

I would bet against Logan Thomas, but as a long term back up type, he definitely has the tools.

I wouldn't hate the pick in the fifth or sixth round
Me either
"Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results."

Some of the best GM's have the philosophy of taking a QB every draft. It's not insane if one happens to pan out. Most 5th and 6th rounder's are out of the league in a year, or two, anyway. Why not take a chance on a player that could change the franchise's fortunes if it works out?

Tom Brady is a product if this kind of risk. Very little risk and very high reward. If not Thomas than it should be someone. Could save you a high pick in the future . One that is just as unlikely to succeed BTW.

or.....

trade our fifth round pick for Mike Glennon....since Tampa appears to want to go in a different direction anyway.....I liked Glennon last year, and I still like him after seeing what he could do with a year in the league.

Besides, somebody has to be your #2 QB. Why not have it be a guy you drafted? 5th round guys are NFL cheap. You never know when your starter is going down and your 5th round guy is going to come in and QB a 7-2 finish.

Just don't make him your starter the next season. :D
