“I’m learning this offense brand new this year, so it wasn’t like I’ve got to undo the old offense,” he said. “For me, the mental part will be easiest. The physical switch is more difficult. There are certain things you do just out of instinct when you play one side long enough.”

Colledge answered the question of whether there was a conversation with coaches about moving sides.

“Yeah, it was a conversation,” he said. “It went kind of like, ‘Hey, Daryn, you’ve got to play the right side. The new rookie coming in is playing left.’ It was a long, thought-out process between me and the coaches.”

Colledge also will play some center in camp, coach Bruce Arians said, and Colledge’s ability to play guard, center and maybe even some tackle adds to his value.

“He stepped up last year,” Arians said. “He’s a good leader. He’s a hard worker. I don’t know what else you can ask of him, other than be able to play three spots.”

That's funny right there...

Funny stuff from DC. He's way overpaid, but it's not really his fault that Graves offered him a dumb contract. If he hadn't been such a disappointment, he could have been a fan favorite.

100% agree with his contract situation. Funny dude who I'm sure lightens up the locker room. I'm not down on him as much as some are. I think he is an average guard who could complement a good OL but isn't all that when playing on a bad OL.

With Levi Brown coming back and the addition of Cooper, I think Colledge will look much better this year. The OL needs to work as one unit and there was no way that was happening last year. So I'm giving Colledge a mulligan for last year.

Yeah, but Colledge wasn't very good in 2011, either. He's not very good. He was the weakest link on a pretty medicore offensive line in Green Bay, and he walked in here and suddenly became the anchor to a terrible offensive line.

I don't think that he was as bad as he looked last year, but I think that his absolute ceiling is an average guard.

Yeah I don't see him being much more than average which at his price tag is hard to swallow. If Kelemete or Watford show any progress this year, Colledge could be an easy salary cap cut next offseason.

I think if Potter can play guard we just might see a change quickly. There is Klemete well. I met Colledge a very nice guy and smart as a whip, that being said he might not make this team.

If Potter is your starting guard, who is your #3 tackle?

I think that the starting offensive line is more or less set right now. Colledge is too expensive to keep on the roster into camp (because if he gets injured, there's no way he's taking an injury settlement) without making the team.

You shouldn't go into the regular season with a guy who barely played last year and a late-round rookie as your primary offensive line backups.

I still expect the Cards to make a move on the O line front.
I believe Moore is still avail at G.

Colledge has a good attitude and that's gonna help him in the long run.

To me, this is the most interesting thing in the article.

‘Colledge also will play some center in camp, coach Bruce Arians said, and Colledge’s ability to play guard, center and maybe even some tackle adds to his value.’

I know it might only be because Arians has a philosophy that the three interior players must have the ability to play all three positions, I just think it could be quite interesting if Colledge were moved to center. I think he is an athletic technician who is just not strong enough to play guard at the highest lever. He is very bright though so I think he could handle the responsibilities. It could open up a spot for Watford, Kelemete or Potter.

More likely he's being groomed for the backup role on game day.

I've always liked Colledge. He seems like he's a good teammate. He's not the most talented player, but he's a good example, the guy busts his ass. I expect Kelemete and Watford to be pushing for the starting spot by the end of the year. And I expect Potter to have a legit shot at starting LT by the end of the year too

It's like going to Buckingham Palace. At the start of every season we get to watch the changing of the Guards.

2009: Wells and Lutui
2010: Faneca and Lutui
2011: Colledge and Hadnot
2012: Colledge and Snyder
2013: Cooper and Colledge

Right Guard must not be a very important position in the NFL. The 49ers for instance haven't had the same guy play RG for them two years in a row in a decade.

Steve Neal with NE has started 16 games at RG for the Patriots only once in 8 seasons and was an UDFA. Ramon Foster of the Steelers was an UDFA. Brandon Fusco of the Vikings was a 6th round selection.

So he is our version of Eric Winston you are saying.

He props up his play with his mouth.

Makes sense cause he is pretty bad, and looked horrible last year.

In other news Earl Watford signed his 4 year contract this yesterday.

2003: Pete Kendall and Leonard Davis
2004: Leonard Davis and Reggie Wells/Cameron Spikes
2005: Wells and Elton Brown/Jeremy Bridges/Adam Haayer
2006: Wells and Lutui/Milford Brown
2007: Wells and Lutui
2008: Wells and Lutui
2009: Wells and Lutui
2010: Faneca and Lutui
2011: Colledge and Hadnot
2012: Colledge and Snyder
2013: Cooper and Colledge

Wow. That is an impressive collection of sub-par and downright awful talent right there. I added a few as well.

Wells - out of football, played for us for a LONG time tho.

Faneca - retired, and should have done so before he every put on a Cardinal uniform.

Lutui - Ate his way out of Arizona, and "the Cardinals best offensive lineman" is probably going to be cut from the Titans this offseason after getting a suspension for flavoring his cheesesteaks with PEDs

Hadnot - Guess we know why the Browns didn't want him

Snyder - Back to being what he is best at, an emergency backup on game day

Colledge - the weak link on the Packers line for years.

Kinda of funny that I went back 10 years and to my surprise due to a lack of memory on the subject, that was the last time we had to good guards on this team.........too bad our tackles were Anthony Clement, and LJ Shelton.......not to mention that the center was the immortal Jason Starkey.

Right Guard must not be a very important position in the NFL.

You know there was a good article about this, and the author made a convincing arguement for right guard to be the most important position.

But, it seems contrary to how teams setup the offensive line, so I find that article to be highly questionable.

.......so, long story short, I agree with the statement above.

27-21 Two NFC West titles and an NFC Championship.

Sack %
2007 3.9
2008 4.3
2009 4.2
2010 8.2!!!!

Not hard to figure out what the heck has been wrong with the offensive line in my opinion.

The issue with Colledge is that he is terrible to have on your roster when he is one of your top two offensive linemen, but more than adaquate when he is one of your two worst ones.

The team has to hope that this will be the case this year. That Levi Brown, Bobby Massie and Jonathan Cooper will out play Colledge. This would make Colledge the veteran player who you try and replace with a cheap, mid round draft pick year after year. That is an ok scenario IMO.

To be honest, I am more concerned with replacing Sendlein over Colledge as long as Cooper is the player we thought when we drafted him and Levi steps it up. My concern is LT, C, and then RG, but I believe we have more options to address LT and RG on our roster right now.

He only signed a one year deal with them last year and stunk up the joint for 8 games.

This year he is a free agent with pretty much zero hopes of getting on with a team.

I thought Deuce was going to make it, but he really dropped off the map fast. Sad to see as he's the first Cardinal player I ever heard of that was a Cardinals fan who went to games at ASU. He told great stories how he hated the Cowboys and his love for the Cards.

One of the few O lineman I enjoyed watching. They even had that video on him talking crap play after play. Best was when he was going against Seattle and he was talking junk to the LB he played with at USC.

considering his salary, I don't think he'll be very hard to replace at a lower cost regardless...

Also, why no love for Sendlein? He's held up pretty well. You can only do so much when you're surrounded by Snyder and Colledge though. I personally think by just adding Cooper to this line, after reading up on him, will make a MASSIVE difference. Supposedly, he helps the T and C out on his side tremendously. If he can seriously bolster that left side, it should give Sendlein enough help to maybe lean right a little bit and help Colledge and if Massie continues to improve as he has, he can also help make up a little bit for Colledge's weakness. Plus Watford, Kelemete and Potter have all given me hope (Kelemete and Potter with their limited play last year, and Watford by how much our coaching staff and FO are high on him) that any of them could develop into a good lineman. Levi is a ? at LT, Potter was supposed to be SUPER raw last season, he didn't look too bad, and steadily improved too. Kelemete is another raw talent guy, but he didn't see much time against the caliber defenders he'd be playing against if he took the starting spot, so I am less confident in him than Potter. Watford is yet another "project" player. But our entire staff seems excited to have him, so I like how it looks at first glance. If the 3 of them can develop into good or better players, we'll have a damn good line IMO. They would be the deepest, most talented OL I've ever seen in AZ. Even if the 3 don't develop that well, and Levi is the career turnstyle, not the real-life blocker he looked like in the last half of his contract year, they'll STILL probably be our best line. But I think they can be a good line by any standards, no more "cards standard"

Sendlein is a technically sound player, but he brings very little physically to the interior of our line. He was undrafted for a reason and that reason is because he is not very strong or athletic. If Levi plays well this year, the next priority up front should be replacing Sendlein.
