The Arizona Cardinals made a significant splash in the second round of the draft, selecting cornerback Will Johnson out of Michigan.
For much of the draft process, Johnson was considered a potential top-10 pick. Based on his tape, he was seen as an immediate shutdown corner — the type of prospect that only comes around every few seasons at the position.
But throughout the spring, multiple concerns emerged. For one, Johnson was diagnosed with a knee issue that teams saw as a long-term concern. He also did not run a 40-yard dash, amplifying concerns about his top-end speed.
His tools, though, are considered elite. And in Arizona, he pairs with Jonathan Gannon, whose background is in coaching defensive backs.
