Niklas is available again...

Troy Niklas - TE - Free Agent
Patriots released TE Troy Niklas.

His roster spot has been absorbed by WR Paul Turner. There was some thought that Niklas could challenge Dwayne Allen for the backup tight end position this year, though obviously that didn't materialize. Primarily a blocking tight end, the 25-year-old has logged just 19 career catches over four seasons.

I am still waiting for the next Johnny McWilliams, that is how sad our TE position has been over the years. Hell, I still remember Fred frigging Wakefield playing one game at TE for us.

It's really weird when you think about it. Traditionally, our WR corps has been the strength of the team. But, we can't find a TE to save our lives.

He’s always been trash!

Keim needs to quit reaching on early round picks on players who rarely produced at a high level in college. It’s about to happen again on a certain DT who played like Jane instead of Tarzan in the SEC

Looking at our TE situation, with Gresh’s achillies and RSJ potential suspension, it makes sense to bring back Niklas.

That makes about as much sense as buying a totaled car, for the purpose of having a backup ride if you wreck your current car.
That wasn’t necessarily an endorsement for Troy, it was an indication of how awful our TE room is. Unquestionably the worst position on the roster

Bringing in Troy Niklas because we have injuries and suspensions would not be a good idea, IMHO.

Guy is EXTREMELY injury prone. No need to bring someone in who will sit on IR in a week after signing him.

Shoot, they should make a call to Antonio Gates....if nothing more than for a one year deal to play AND TEACH THE YOUNG GUYS how to train, practice and learn from one of the best in the game.

I hear ya.... Sorry if it came off as snarky, that was the thought that instantly came to my head...
My best friend's kid went to High School with Niklas, and I was rooting for him big time.

He's made a decent living NOT playing football, The few times he hit the field supposedly healthy, makes me question the draft pick way beyond his injury history.
