A night after his heads-up defensive play sealed a victory for the Chicago Cubs, Dansby Swanson has his team in front of the Diamondbacks thanks to his bat.
Swanson blasted a solo homer to left-center field in the top of the second inning, a swing that represents the only run of the game in Sunday’s series finale at Chase Field.
The Swanson homer is one of only two hits Diamondbacks lefty Eduardo Rodriguez has allowed through five innings.
Cubs lefty Matthew Boyd has given up just four hits and two walks through four innings.
The Diamondbacks are looking to salvage a split of this four-game series after the Cubs won two of the first three games.

New Diamondbacks left-handed pitcher Jalen Beeks went through a whirlwind of a last six days since joining the team.
Beeks was signed to a one-year contract on Wednesday and appeared for Arizona on the mound on Opening Day in relief.
"I've been traded before, so I know a little bit about how crazy it can be, and just like showing up and getting ready for the game," Beeks said before Sunday's game against the Cubs. "We talked to them (the Diamondbacks) on Monday, I flew out on Tuesday ... and then Wednesday I played some catch, and Thursday I was in the game."
Beeks, a native of Arkansas, previously pitched with Tampa Bay and Colorado. He also appeared on Saturday for the Diamondbacks, and before this season had only once before pitched at Chase Field.
Beeks said getting to know his new teammates as people has been a lot of fun. He flew out to Arizona with his wife and children, and they are renting a house until they find a more permanent living space.
"They're pros by now," Beeks said. "My wife, she's awesome, she just takes care of everything, and I can go play. She's a big blessing. The kids, they're like 'Oh, we're going to play for the Diamondbacks, that's awesome.' My son was like 'You're going to play with (Ketel) Marte. You're going to play with Zac Gallen!' He's got all of his cards. He thinks they're way cooler than I am.
"They adjust real fast. They've grown up in this. They're never known anything else, so they're good at it by now."
The plan is for the Beeks family to look for a house while Beeks and the team are on the six-game road trip to New York and Washington, D.C.

Diamondbacks LHP Eduardo Rodriguez (3-4, 5.04)* vs. Cubs LHP Matthew Boyd (2-2, 2.72)*.
At Chase Field: Rodriguez enters his second season with the Diamondbacks, looking for a bounce-back year. He spent most of 2024 on the injured list and posted only so-so results in the 10 starts he was able to make. … He enjoyed a solid spring training, posting a 2.70 ERA in 10 innings, walking two and striking out 12. … Rodriguez sits in the 92 mph range with his fastball. He throws a change-up, cutter and slider. … Boyd missed most of last season as he worked his way back from Tommy John surgery, but he threw well in eight starts down the stretch, then put together three more strong performances in the postseason. … Last year, Boyd sat 92 mph with his fastball while also throwing a change-up, slider and curveball. He got big whiff rates on his slider (44.9 percent) and curveball (47.4 percent), though the latter was a pitch he did not throw often.
