There goes the fun in being underdogs.

As the Diamondbacks came to their Chase Field clubhouse Saturday to pack their belongings, they had to put away their chip for getting no respect, too. Friday's loss at Milwaukee eliminated the Diamondbacks from the postseason but their season eliminated any chance that they will sneak up on the baseball world next year.

"It definitely gives you that understanding and that belief going into next year, knowing that we're going to have the same core of guys," Diamondbacks reliever David Hernandez said. "We're going to be one year older and one year better. Hopefully, we can take the next step next year."

They should absolutely be favored to win the west for the next half-decade, unless the Giants land a big fish like Prince Fielder. If that happens, the battles will be epic in the NL West.

The Giants have great pitching and may have great trouble keeping them all in the new few years. One hitter is not going to solve all of their offensive woes. They will have their own struggles, especially trying to keep their starting pitchers when $$$$$ comes calling from the other teams (NY, BOS, etc).
