The Athletic named Paul Goldschmidt as their Least Valuable Player in the NL this season. How did he lose it so quickly at 36? His career high 177 OPS+ 2 years ago shriveled to a career-low 95 this year. Is it time for him to retire?

His slash line this year - .241/.299/.406 for a .705 OPS. About the same that Josh Bell had when Miami waived him.

Yes...he should retire or - return to the DBacks for a swan song farewell tour as DH/1B in 2025. But he really belongs in St. Louis - where old ballplayers go to die under the MO and OliPad regime. St. Louis is a once proud franchise turned to dust by MO Mozeliak as the GM.

Only 7 players batted over .300 this season, with a 8th possible with a good day.

Only 12 player with at least 100 RBIs, with 5 or so more possible after today.

Only 4 players over 40 HRs with 3 sitting at 39.

For NL
Otani is 1st in HRs, 2nd in average and 1st in RBIs. He has a legit shot at the triple crown with a .310 average.

Marte is 4th in HRs, 6th in average and 10th in RBIs.

Is this a down year overall for offense or are we starting to see the end of the super stars and seeing more well rounded teams?
