Bronson Arroyo | ARZ
(July 7, 2014 6:05 PM EDT)
Bronson Arroyo has decided to undergo Tommy John surgery.
Arroyo had been hoping to rehab the sprained ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow, but he had an MRI last month which showed the UCL had come completely off the bone. A date for surgery hasn't been set, but having the operation now should give him a chance to return in the second half of 2015. Arroyo, 37, said Monday that he's determined to pitch for a couple more seasons.

Just wait until he is healthy again. He will show us how good he is. :)

Never been on the IR until he signs with the Dbacks and then he needs TJ surgery. Typical.

This year is the gift that just keeps on giving.

Forget firing Towers at this point I think he should be crucified. The word was no other team would touch Arroyo because he had arm issues. Nice move.

Here's hoping Arroyo has a healthy recovery.

Sure wish they had Skaggs but the idiot gm wanted to have another Mark Reynolds who can't play the outfield. There are double A teams that have a better starting rotation than the Diamondbacks. Kendrick needs to fire Towers immediately or else he will have to file for bankruptcy.

Read that Arroyo pitched his last 4 starts with no UCL... Dude is tough. But now jinxed for being brought in by KT!

Nothing against Arroyo, seems like a nice enough guy who played through some pain but yet another guy ARZ is stuck paying for nothing. Towers has to have sealed his GM career with this disaster of a tenure in ARZ. I mean what owner is
stupid enough to hire him after he finally gets canned?

I said it once, ARZ should never have let Mike Rizzo leave. They should have made him GM instead of Josh Byrnes and beat WAS to the punch.

lol

...that seems a bit callous, but seriously, what else can one do at this point.

Arroyo's failure here statistically was foreseeable, and while it might seem like a surprise that a guy with a rep for being a work horse would get hurt, it should never be a shock when a 37 year old gets injured. Also, Towers admitted a few weeks ago that he KNEW Arroyo had a bone chip in his elbow before they signed him. Yes, its not a torn UCL but you start with an injury in an area and dudes naturally try to compensate... now his elbow is toast.

3 year contract on this guy, old, barely above replacement level and damaged goods before he ever signed it. Towers is absurdly freaking stupid.

arroyo, cahill, ross, trumbo. Look at the salaries were paying for zero mlb production right now. They are all big ones too.

Paying $2 million for McCarthy as well... And it could be argued that Prado is giving is "zero production" as well! :)

I'd put Prado above "zero production". Right now, he is 3rd on the team in RUNS and 4th in RBI's.

P L A Y E R . . . . . . . . R U N S
Goldschmidt . . . . . . . . . 66
Parra . . . . . . . . . . . . . 45
Prado . . . . . . . . . . . . . .39
Montero . . . . . . . . . . . . 32
Pollock . . . . . . . . . . . . . 28
Owings . . . . . . . . . . . . . 26
Hill . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 25

P L A Y E R . . . . . . . . R B I ' s
Goldschmidt . . . . . . . . . 59
Montero . . . . . . . . . . . . 52
Hill . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 43
Prado . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 35
Parra . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 25
Owings . . . . . . . . . . . . . 21

But I wouldn't include Prado in our long term plans at 3B. In a pinch, perhaps 2B.

Yep, the thing that bugs me about this is that it gives, on paper atleast, KT another excuse for this season. This team was doomed long before all the injuries hit.

Can only chalk all this stuff up to bad luck and tough breaks before it's obvious to even the most staunch KT supporters that the guy just does not make good baseball decisions.

He is below replacement level, thats all that matters. And those stats are not very telling of his individual play. He is not getting on base, he has no power, he has no speed and he sucks in the field. Prado's a disaster.

To be fair, I would say he's acceptably average in the field... However, I agree with everything else you say here... Prado is my least favorite Dback and on this team, that's saying something...

Even less than Cody Ross? Now, there is the epitome of "zero production".

But as I said, I wouldn't include Prado in our long term plans at 3B.

Cody has a halfway legit excuse for his putridness as that injury was horrific...
Prado has no excuse. And, I despise his walk-off, dirt tossing antics... If he ever tried that ish with me it would be his last time!
