Linderbee's post gave me this idea: Why not have a thread for ASFN'ers looking to trade certain DVDs with other ASFN'ers?

Netflix is a subscription service for renting and returning DVDs, while Peerflix is a peer-to-peer trading system...so why not simply have an ASFNflix?

Have a movie on DVD you no longer want, heck, have a list of them? Put it in this thread and look through other poster's lists until you find something you'd like better. The details of trades could be worked out via private messages, or email, so that no one needs to post their addresses online.

Just an idea.

Interesting.

Another man's trash is another's treasure!

Maybe we could do just something where we just borrow, too, not necessarily trade for good. I'd love to borrow someone's Lost or something.

I already inventory my DVD's and videos on VHS in spreadsheet format in .xls format for easy indexing.

I would be willing to participate so long as the untrustworthy members have to put down a deposit to insure safe return of borrowed goods.

How much of a deposit should we require you to give us, Ken? :D

I do the same thing except I did it in Access.

I have reviews and all sorts of stuff indexed in there. It is super nerdy...and probably 75% of the reason why I'm going through a divorce.

Most of my dvds have been carefully selected for rewatchability. Sometimes though, I make poor decisions and buy movies I don't really like enough to watch again.

Minority Report
Boiler Room
Escape From LA
Out of Time
Higher Learning
Hoosiers
The Village
Traffic
Punch-drunk Love
The Shield S1

I would say those titles are like Herpes and Luggage, you are stuck with them...

I wouldn't mind taking another stab at The Shield. What are you looking for in return?

If you're interested in something better than DVD Aficionado, try www.dvdspot.com. BY FAR the best online DVD cataloging site.

I used dvdaf a few years ago and have not updated. I will give DVDSpot a try.

I need to bring my laptop home with me, and use it to catalog my collection. It is the fastest way.

bumping for interest. I have quite a few movies that I wouldn't mind trading.

I do, and I would loan it out, but not part with it entirely.

You have 647 dvds???? Seriously? Do you have a 2nd home you keep them all in?

:biglaugh:

I did have to slow down buying them though, as I don't have much room for them. I still have to update probably another 50 or so of the Childrens movies.

I don't mind lending them out really either, as long as I trust the person that I lend it to will treat the movies as well as I do.

Don't ever lend anything to me. Seriously. No matter how much I ask. We all have our faults. I don't return anything. :(

That, and my kids/pets will likely destroy it.
