OK, Linderbee, Jersey Girl and I had talked about this in the Oscars thread. Let's get together and watch all the best picture nominees.

We have until Sunday, February 25.

“Babel” (Paramount and Paramount Vantage)

“The Departed” (Warner Bros.)

“Letters from Iwo Jima” (Warner Bros.)

“Little Miss Sunshine” (Fox Searchlight)

“The Queen” (Miramax, Pathé and Granada)

We need to decide when we'll watch a movie, where and which one. ;)

I have seen The Departed and will probably rent Little Miss Sunshine, but I am game for any of them to be the first movie.

I propose "The Queen", this Thursday, Feb 1 at Deer Valley 30 (101 and 17)at 7:30 PM. I know this is a little far north, but the next person could propose a theater closer to their 'hood (I'm lookin' at you Linderbee).

Thats a little far south dont you think? Are any of these movies playing in Wickenburg? I think that would be a tad more fair! :D

I'm cool with that....I don't mind that drive--just a hop, skip & a jump on the 101...probably not any further than it is for you...I'm free on Thursdays, too, so that works great for me

Ha. Me picking DV30 is a pre-emptive strike for when someone picks Arizona Mills and I have to drive into work that day, just so I have a car to go see a movie.

AZ Center would be good for a lot of us--even better for you if you drive in that day...

Well, Linderbee and I can scratch "The Queen" off our lists. :)

I thought it was a very well done movie. I loved the docu-drama aspect, mixing in real footage of the royals and Diana and both British and American newscasts. The film had somewhat of a vouyeristic feel to it and the intense relationships of the characters was very enjoyable to me.

Michael Sheen was amazing as Tony Blair, a role he had played in another production.

Helen Miran has to be a lock for the Best Actress Oscar, but I dont think this film will win Best Picture.

:stupid: Except I'm not so sure about Helen Mirren. I need to go back & see what other actresses are up for it (and watch the movies). imo, best actress is one of the harder ones to call.

Michael Sheen was great.

Not this year. Helen Mirren is probably the biggest lock this category has ever had.

Performance by an actress in a leading role

Penélope Cruz in “Volver” (Sony Pictures Classics)

Judi Dench in “Notes on a Scandal” (Fox Searchlight)

Helen Mirren in “The Queen” (Miramax, Pathé and Granada)

Meryl Streep in “The Devil Wears Prada” (20th Century Fox)

Kate Winslet in “Little Children” (New Line)

Yeah, I guess you're right. Judi Dench would be the only one that I think would stand a chance, since she's only won for supporting actress. Meryl's already won for the category, so no need to validate her career with one this year. The other two we don't even need to discuss. It won't happen for them.

You guys actually watched it? Wow...something took place on here?

I was hoping to see The Queen on the plane, but they changed over on Feb 1st so I couldn't see it. Was kind of upset. Heard it was good.
