Bowlsby, in his 14th year at Iowa, is chair of the NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament committee.
Tim Weiser, Kansas State AD, also passed when approached about the ASU job by search firm Baker Parker.
ASU is hiring a replacement for Gene Smith, now at Ohio State.
