Not looking good at all. Now Egor Koulechov is transfering

Koulechov joins Kearney, Calean Robinson and Bo Barnes as players to transfer this offseason. Arizona State also lost assistant coach Eric Musselman and 2014 signee Octavius Ellis, who was released from his scholarship last week.

According to State Press basketball writer Josh Nacion, the Sun Devils will return just four players from the 2013-2014 squad.

At this rate, one wonders whether they'll be able to field a team.

The only interesting thing about next season for ASU mens hoops will be if Sendek makes it through the entire year or if he's fired midway.

By no stretch of the imagination is ASU a destination program in basketball, but even so they have enough to offer to where recruiting shouldn't be this bad.

I guess what I am wondering is, what's going on? Toward the end of the year, the players started looking like their puppy dog got ran over. Then, season over, everyone and their sister starts to transfer. Is there something going on here that the public isn't being told about?

Actually, with Koulechov transferring, Barnes is now coming back. Also, some of the junior college transfers we have coming in are supposed to be pretty good, but it's usually pretty hard to predict with JC's.

Maybe everyone realizes the SS Sendek is a sinking ship and they need to get off. Only players with quite limited options are sticking around it seems.

It's just as much that Sendek always seems to miss on his first several choices in recruiting and is forced to take chances on some pretty sub-par prospects. Then when they mostly don't work out he has to run them off in hopes of getting players that can play at this level. Either way, the good news for ASU fans is that the rest of the conference sans UofA, Colorado, and maybe Utah hasn't really taken any big steps as programs since Herb has taken over. With a couple exceptions there's still a huge void of proven top notch coaching talent in the conference unlike football.
