My cynical reading of this is that TB16 will be the starter.

Reading between the lines, he can get rid of the ball quicker and shouldn't take 8 sacks

But I really don't like the short passing game. If we aren't running the ball well, the D is totally rolled up. Hopefully that's not the case Saturday and things open up downfield for whoever our QB is. .

Dillingham should settle on a quarterback and go with it. Whichever quarterback they choose, needs repetitions.

I'm sure Pyne can play better, but the blitz is a real concern with injuries to the offensive line.

I think Bourguet's arm is underrated.

Trenton Bourguet is with the 1st unit today at practice.

Also looks like Edge Clayton Smith is practicing again after missing last week.

Looks like some movement among the WR's. X Guillory was great in Fall camp and had that one TD, but hasn't shown up too much after that. I wonder if some of the other guys start to see more action.

X1 has been a real disappointment so far.

The musical chairs at QB continues...

Arizona State quarterback Drew Pyne will be “out for the near future,” Sun Devils head coach Kenny Dillingham told reporters on Tuesday. The update effectively slides Trenton Bourguet back into a starting role against the California Golden Bears on Saturday.

Bourguet, himself dealing with a lower leg injury that kept him out of a loss to the USC Trojans on Saturday, was running with the first team during Tuesday’s practice, according to Sun Devil Source’s Chris Karpman. Karpman added that Dillingham referenced three different physical injuries that Pyne is dealing with.

I don't like TB's arm strength at all, but he does other things well. I'm sure that CKD will adjust, now that he is calling plays.

Ya, probably more football IQ than anyone on the team. So he can make up for it in other ways, I bet he takes less sacks than Pyne.

I also hear he is eating a lot of spinach, going for that Popeye arm strength. (lame "Dad joke").

In a more serious note, OL coach Saga Tuitele is still out with an undisclosed health problem. Must be somewhat serious to keep him out, but hopin' for the best for him. Dude is the kind of beast you want coaching OL.

It's a good thing that ASU has Steve Miller filling in. The recent Sun Devil player seems to have a future in coaching.

I hope there isn’ta letdown after the USC game. I have no reason to think there will be but you never know.

I think this is a winnable game although Cal seems to be more competitive than I expected. The QB carousel continues.

He was disappointing (hardly even played against USC) from what I read, but this is additional loss of depth for Cal and the rest of the season. I would like to see the local kids have success at ASU, but good luck to him.

I think this also speaks to how Tate Romney has stepped up and hung onto the starting position even after Shaffer came back from his injury. Tate Romney may be the second coming of Kyle Soelle, which is pretty damn good at this level. Shaffer has to go somewhere else to get the playing time. Best of luck to him.

I don’t know Cal very well but I A.M. wondering if there is talent disparity in any position group that speaks to a double digit point spread.

Obviously it all comes down to OL play…for both teams.

Anyone have insight on Cal and how ASU matches up?

Not sure if I would call it insight, but my sense is that our defense should do pretty well against Cal. A less explosive group than USC of course. My hope is that we hold them under 3 TD's.

The unpredictable thing will be our offense. Maybe that's why the betting odds are so screwed. TB really has no track record this year. We know he is a capable QB, but he is our 3rd string QB. Looking at that against a decent Cal defense, Vegas doesn't like us this week.

But we have a lot of explosive playmakers that give us a good chance this week if TB can be a good distributor like I know he can. Hopefully, Badger, Conyers and/or Skattebo will have good games and put some points on the board.
