That defense was just awful. Epically awful.

Taylor's body language did not look good. Crossing my fingers but that had the look of "out for a long time".

I think we are just what we seem to be. We're a very one-sided team. We have an exciting offense but this defense is pure trouble. We might have to score on every possession to win most of our games. It's nice to be 3 - 0 but we had 8 teams on our schedule that could well beat us, even with Kelly, and we've yet to face any of them.

Kelly looked completely dejected on the sidelines after he came back out. Doug Franz was on the sideline and said Kelly looked like he was near tears. It doesn't look good at all.

I haven't been impressed with Berocovici when he's been in there, but hopefully practicing with the first team will make a difference. Otherwise it's going to get ugly.

Wow, tough game. Not only do we lose our quarterback but our also our best defensive player:

Earlier in the second quarter, sophomore spur linebacker Viliami "Laiu" Moeakiola left with a right-arm injury. He watched the second half with the arm in a sling. ***

Moeakiola left in the second quarter. Through the season's opening weeks, he had been ASU's most consistent defensive player. Graham and co-defensive coordinator Keith Patterson thought enough of his performance and leadership to promote Moeakiola to team captain last week.

Without Moeakiola, the Sun Devils at times had four true freshmen on the field: defensive tackle Tashon Smallwood, weak-side linebacker D.J. Calhoun, cornerback Armand Perry and Christian Sam, who replaced Moeakiola at spur.

That was a big hit on our already inexperienced D early in the game. They were pitching a shutout into the second quarter.

At least we have a bye week next week for Berc and Sam to use to get acclimated and get a lot of first team reps.

Damn good thing we don't play Oregon in the regular season this year!
Our defense might come together and be pretty decent a year or two from now... But at present, they are just too young and too small...

The Kelly injury looked devastating. Ankles weren't meant to move in that direction. His body language on the sidelines didn't convey that he's coming back anytime soon.

I don't know much about your QB2, except that he's not nearly as mobile as TK, which is why defenses struggle to defend ASU. Foster is playing well, so there's that.

If Taylor Kelley is out for a significant period of time the season does not look good for the Sun Devils going forward. Actually, it would be devastating. The offense was basically expected to carry a young defense. Then to top it off, the Sun Devils lose one of their best defenders in Laiu Moeakiola for an undetermined amount of time. Obviously the Sun Devil defense is not ready for the big time. These new developments are very discouraging.

If Moeakiola and Kelly are out for extended period, ASU is going to be lucky to make it to a bowl. Things could go south in a hurry.

So did you cash in on that free money?

nope, I dont gamble! Players get hurt, like Kelly did last night and thus things get weird. I'm glad I didn't. If Kelly wouldn't have gotten hurt, ASU would've easily covered.

I think Berc is actually going to surprise some people in a positive way.

At one time I thought he might be the best of the bunch among Michael Eubank and Taylor Kelly because of his arm. However, he looks so rusty now. Maybe he needs a lot more repetitions. Also it seems there was another QB in the early mix that I'm forgetting.

Does Graham really not think UCLA is going to find out one way or another? The posturing is pretty weird.

I agree. Don't know what to make of it unless Graham just wants to make UCLA prepare for the possibility of Kelly playing.

Here is also something interesting from Sporting News writer Brandon Schlager that I had not heard.

Arizona State coach Todd Graham hopped on local radio for his regular post-game interview following the Sun Devils' 38-24 win over Colorado and allowed everyone to breathe a little easier: Star quarterback Taylor Kelly is "going to be absolutely fine," he said.

It's not just the number of games he's going to miss, but also what he's going to look like when he comes back.

It's not what TK can do with his arm that scares DCs, it's what he does with his legs that adds a whole other dimension to his game. Kelly relies heavily on the ground game as was exhibited on that 50-yard TD scamper. If he plays hurt, along with having his ankle/foot heavily taped, he's going to be limited in his mobility.

Its not about posturing, its about keeping the team focused of the huge challenge of playing against UCLA next week. Graham tends to reinforce his messages to the team through the media. UCLA already knows that Kelly is not playing against them. It may also be to keep USC and Stanford guessing a bit.

what does it harm Graham and ASU to be coy? It doesn't, so you may as well be, even if there's a less than 1% chance it gives you any advantage.
