So PG Chris Colvin of Palm Beach CC has decided to come to ASU. He originally went to Iowa State, then to a CC and now is ASU bound. I'm not sure what his story is, must've been a mess academically to bounce from ISU to a CC. But he was a Top 100 kid coming out of HS in 2009, so hopefully he can step right in for the now gone Brandon Dunson and do a good job backing up Jahii Carson at the PG slot.
PG/SG (but more PG) Evan Gordon (younger brother of Hoosier/Clipper Eric Gordon) has also decided to transfer to ASU from Liberty (where the Gordon's dad also went). He led Liberty in points per game but his shooting percentage from 3 was a bit lower than you'd like out of a guard. I haven't seen him play so perhaps opposing teams were really keying on him as Liberty's main scorer.
Interestingly Corey Hawkins was Gordon's host while visiting ASU. You'd think they'll likely be competing for a similar role and at first blush it would appear Sendek is indeed recruiting over Corey with Gordon a bit. But if Hawkins is hosting him that sort of seems to me like that would contradict that notion. Though I suppose Hawkins is going to be more developed more as a 2 and Gordon is specifically coming to ASU to play the PG slot.
All of this is a bit odd, I know Sendek is scrambling to fill classes and all but with Royce Woolridge now out there and specifically stating he wants to play closer to home I wish Sendek would've held out for him over a JC kid. Maybe trying to get Woolridge could still be in the cards, he's grown a bit since HS (he's like 6'3'' now) and most NCAA teams are vastly undersized anyhow. We know Herb loves having a bunch of guys standing around the perimeter who can shoot, so maybe my Woolridge dream isn't completely crushed.
Jonathan Gilling of Denmark has also officially sent in his LOI, he's a 6'8'' wing type forward. Who knows how much he'll play next year, I'd assume he's a 3 or 4 in Sendeks system and thusly will be behind King, Felix, Creekmur and Cain.
Another CC guard out of Kansas, Jeremy Jones, was scheduled to visit ASU this month but I imagine thats off now.
