ASU gets an NIT #1 seed... nothing really to brag about, but all things considered, not bad for the type of year we SHOULD have had...

but the greatest part of today...

UofA not even getting invited to the NIT... :biglaugh:

And before UA fans get your panties in a wad, I am not using this instance as proof that ASU has surpassed UofA as the top Basketball program, or that UofA has fallen off, but I think it is important to note, that this season, UofA not only saw their streak come to an end, but they are done playing in the post season, turning down the CBI tourney, because honestly the only way things could get any worse, is to lose to Jacksonville St. and remove all doubt of just how bad things went for the peeps down south this year...

So Cheers to ASU, hopefully we can use this #1 seed and NIT to build expierance and confidence going into next year, and better yet, UofA is NOT playing at all...

Why was it so easy to predict that ASU fans would be pathetic and dumb enough to actually brag about an NIT invitation? Arizona and it's fans actually have standards for the basketball program, there's a lot of other things that need to get done quickly and starting on it right away is a much more ideal situation than trying to win a Little League trophy while some of the team's idiots continue to poison the well.

He wasnt bragging about an NIT invite, he was simply pointing out that your savior of a coach, who happend to have a ton more talent than Herb, couldnt even get them to the NIT. Keep those wildcat colored glasses on tho guys. Youll be back in the final 4 next year right?

I'm surprised you're taking this so well, you know, seeing your NCAA Tournament streak end at 1.

Here is the thing, we were picked to finish second to last in the PAC-10 this year.. we lost two players to the first 31 picks of the draft including a top 3 player, considered our TEAM for the past 2 seasons...

To have finished the season 2nd in the PAC-10 and have a shot at the NCAA tourney was a pleasent surprise.. though we didn't get into the tournament this year, we have set a standard for years to come, that we were not just James Harden and everyone else, we are a team that can compete..

And again, the NIT is NOTHING to brag about, but we are a top seed, and to a program like ASU post season expierence can do nothing but help a young team heading toward the future...

Quite the standard you're setting: Hey, our coach is such a mediocre recruiter than we're thrilled when he overachieves to get an NIT invitation.

Congrats guys.

I don't care where they were picked. I am embarassed that they are in the NIT. I am not impressed by the top seed in the NIT. I will not waste any time on following the team in the loser bracket.

Being in the NIT would be even more embarrising, sort of like UNC being in it.

Carolina doesnt deserve a NIT bid, at all.

I would rather the season end than watch UA lose to a mid-major who couldnt make the NCAA tournament.

I dont think anyone in Zona Zoo is really lamenting over the "snubbing" of an NIT bid. As a matter of fact, I would be more embarrassed if we played in it. It is time for this team and coaching staff to regain focus and concentrate on getting more talent here next season.

I hope ASU wins the NIT Championship game so we can see them hang that banner high on the rafters at Wells Fargo Arena with pride.....

Guys, I normally try and stay neutral when it comes to UofA Basketball, since I live here AND have a degree from Arizona - But...

The last few posts have the UofA fans sounding like a bunch of elitist snobs. Yeah, you have a Championship banner. Yes, you had an impressive streak of Final Four appearances from the late 80s to 2001. And Yes, Arizona has been a top basketball program for 20+ years - However, you attract more flies with Honey than you do with Vinegar. If you want respect and awe - try acting a bit more mature. Complement your competition now and again. A little goes a long way.

THANK YOU, the overwhelming arrogance is always amusing. Wake me up when U of A hoops does anything without Lute, in the meantime a little humility would be refreshing.

(Cue comment about gift tourney appearances and the joke sweet 16 appearance, where the Cats got humiliated as soon as they faced a half decent opponent)

Wow. Hypocrisy much? asudude starts a thread laughing at the Cats and then the asu fans get their panties in a wad when some UA fans respond. Typical.

You dont think it would be embarrassing to see Arizona playing in the NIT and losing to a mid major and not making it to New York? I dont know what is elitist about that, its the cold hard truth. UA is not a very good team and has a few players on the team that want nothing more than for the season to be over.

Call it a joke sweet 16 appearance, but we did get there and it does count as a sweet 16 run. Ill take a "joke" sweet 16 run over the opportunity to play in the NIT.

If you cannot provide anything cogent to the subject, stay neutral then. My post had nothing to do with ASU except for your elitist taunt about being in the NIT. Mostly our situation. Since this thread had us mentioned, I have every right to comment on the situation. You can't take it, don't dish it out.

Well considering ASUDUDE started off by laughing at us about missing out on an NIT bid, so if you are going to call me a snob, then I can call you folks immature. I was merely alluding to the fact that none of us give a damn about this situation. It was a weak attempt IMO to get under our skin. Most of us have been looking towards the future since the middle of the season so at this point, we have become numb to the situation.

My post and the posts of others have little to do with our competition but mainlyabout our program. The only thing I alluded to was the fact that you seem to be basking in the glory of being #1 seed in the NIT, which is the equivalent to missing out on Kim Kardashian while bragging about getting Khloe. I thought the bar was raised last season at ASU.

If you had a 25 year tourny streak snapped, you'd be pretty disappointed to. But apparently, we cannot feel that way without being immature based on your logic. Normal human reaction.

It goes without saying that we acknowledge we are inferior to about 50% of our competition (give our record).

Renz - this is an ASU forum (well subforum), ASU fan can act like a jerk. If the same had been posted in the UofA forum, I would have a problem with it as well. Its kinda like celebrating with your teammates in the locker room, but still shake the hands of the opponents on the field.

I didn't taunt the UofA about the NIT... in fact, I'm very disappointed that the UofA ended its streak! I still believe Sean Miller was an excellent hire and will get things turned around.

Again, this is an ASU board. Kinda like making fun of others behind their back. If this was posted in the UofA forum - then I can see how that would be unacceptable.

Trust me, I'm sick about it as well... and that gets my ASU buddies pissed off with me. I want to see the PAC10 as a whole out perform the country, and this year we got a big bloody nose.

Funny considering you and your ilk's constant preening over the last few years when ASU Basketball and Herb have accomplished nothing. Not that I expect it but if there's anyone that humble it's you guys - we have at least tasted success before.

Since we're throwing out asterisks does that mean we can label ASU's 1995 Sweet 16 a joke because they beat a #12 and #13 seed? Or ASU's 2007 Football co-championship season when they played the easiest schedule in the country before getting wiped out by every team with a pulse? Didn't think so.

I understand this is an ASU board, but when I see UofA in the name of a thread, regardless of what board it is in, naturally I check it out. I opened it, looked at some of the jabs towards UofA and I responded. To me, it becomes a bilateral topic.

The rest of this post is classy BTW. Just understand I am going to defend my college as I expect you to do if ASU is brought up.

so if you were Florida in a couple years and they have go 6-7, and get invited to the poinsetta bowl, do they turn it down because they are "embarrassed" to play in a bowl game like that?

I have to admit, it is surprising how many of the UofA fans are taking this... and AGAIN, please understand any ASU fan who has even a tidbit of knowledge is not hanging our hat on this NIT invitation, and if we lose in the first 2 rounds it really is COMPLETELY moot.... but the fact is to be in the NIT is a STEP in the right direction, and to say it would be more embarrassing than anything to a team like UofA, I just don't get that logic...

The NIT wasn't too embarassing for UConn and UNC. If it's good enough for them, I guess we can show up too.

As for ASU/UofA, the stat that should really burn Cats fans is that they've finished behind ASU in the conference standings for THREE straight seasons. UofA fans would've laughed their asses off if we had predicted a run like that for Sendek when he was hired. Hell, no ASU fan could've even fathomed a turn in fortune like that for the two programs at the time. No matter how "mediocre" ASU might be under Sendek.
