He was a real surprise wasn't he? The guy that really has been amazing is Jermichael Finley.

I think nearly every former Horns player taken by the Cards not named Rick McKivor was pretty decent for them

Ha! Ha! Bucky do you remember when the Cards drafted Gene the Coke Machine Chilton?

The year the Cards took McIvor, Texas had 17 players drafted and the Cards took four of them:

Doug Dawson, McIvor, Jeff Leiding, and a little remembered RB named Johnny Walker.

(not the JWalker that was the hero of the OU game 6 years later)

That was back when teams had twice as many draft picks as they do now. So they would just randomly take players. Got Niki Noga that season though.

They also took ETSU QB Kyle Mackey that year too I believe. I played softball a few years later against him & Rick and Kyle was sporting a Cards hat. Both were big dudes for QB's. Injuries ruined what Dawson showed was a promising career.
