Auburn freshman quarterback Deuce Knight knew that he would face pressure during last Saturday's A-Day practice, as it would be the first time he would wear the orange and blue in front of Tiger fans.

However, the pressure intensified when it was revealed that Oklahoma transfer quarterback Jackson Arnold would be held out of the A-Day practice as a precaution for his nagging hamstring, meaning the spotlight would only be on him.

Knight made several key throws on Saturday, however, he also threw two interceptions. Auburn head coach Hugh Freeze said following A-Day that Knight's interceptions were not indicative of the spring he had.

"He hasn’t done that all spring,” Freeze said of Knight's interceptions during A-Day. “He hadn’t, he hadn’t thrown the ball late. He has a real good instinct when, um, the pocket is collapsing, to keep his eyes downfield and, and extend plays and then either throw away or run and he’s done well all spring. He and Jackson both have taken care of the ball well. So that was a little out of, uh, out of character for him, truthfully, with the fifteen, the days we’ve had in practice. And just hadn’t seen that so those were – he immediately knew and that’s the great thing about him. After every play, man, he’s, he’s giving you feedback.”

Freeze also complimented Knight's ability to place balls where receivers could catch them and to direct the offense in red-zone situations. Overall, Freeze feels that a few film sessions will help Knight correct the errors he made on Saturday.

“I thought it was a solid day for Knight,” Freeze said. “He’ll look at the film and there’ll be things that he’ll wish he would have done differently. But, um, it’s nothing like that experience for him to help prepare him for the fall.”

Knight will continue to battle Arnold, as well as Stanford transfer Ashton Daniels, for the QB1 role this summer, leading into fall camp. Auburn will face Baylor on Friday, Aug. 29 in Waco, Texas to open the 2025 season.
