Auburn baseball added yet another tally to the win column on Tuesday by out-slugging ACC opponent Georgia Tech 9-8 in Atlanta. The Tigers, who had lost last week's non-conference Tuesday contest against in-state rival UAB, are now 23-10 on the season.

Butch Thompson's No. 9 ranked Tigers pounced out to an early advantage in the first inning thanks to redshirt senior Cooper McMurray's first-career grand slam. It was the Tulsa, Oklahoma native's eight home run of the season, and first since March 25 against South Alabama.

The No. 9 ranked Tigers and No. 15 ranked Yellow Jackets mostly traded paper cuts throughout the first half of the nine inning affair from there, with both squads plating a single run through the fifth inning after McMurray opened the scoring with a grand entrance.

Once the scorebook flipped to the sixth, Georgia Tech flipped the game on its head. Starting with a home run from sophomore infielder Carson Kerce and ending with an RBI single from freshman Alex Hernandez, the Yellow Jackets rallied for 5 runs against Auburn relief pitchers Jett Johnston and Ben Schorr to take a 7-5 lead.

That lead lasted all but a single inning, as Tigers sophomore Eric Guevara knotted things up with an RBI single in the seventh. Stars Deric Fabian and Ike Irish, along with freshman Bub Terrell, added run scoring hits an inning later, giving Butch Thompson's squad a much-needed cushion to salt away a 9-8 win.

The win was Auburn's ninth against a ranked opponent this season, including its fourth away from Plainsman Park. The 23-10 Tigers are now 16-5 in non-conference play this campaign.
