AUBURN — After one season with Auburn basketball, freshman forward Jahki Howard is entering the transfer portal, he told Joe Tipton of On3 on Wednesday. Howard posted the news to his personal Instagram account, confirming the initial report.

A former top-100 recruit, Howard played in 21 of the Tigers’ 38 games. He never made a start, averaging 4.2 points and 1.1 rebounds in 9.1 minutes off the bench. He joins Tahaad Pettiford as the second Tiger to announce a non-eligibility departure, as Pettiford declared for the NBA Draft on Monday while maintaining his college eligibility.

Howard’s lone year on the Plains began with a bit of controversy, as he was one of two Tigers allegedly involved in a mid-flight altercation en route to Auburn’s eventual 74-69 win over then-No. 4 Houston on Nov. 9. Neither Howard, nor Ja’Heim Hudson, were in Houston for the contest, and neither saw the floor again until the Tigers’ trip to the Maui Invitational.

Listed as a top-100 recruit by 247Sports, ESPN and Rivals, Howard chose Auburn over offers from Arkansas, Arizona State and Georgia Tech. He held offers from 21 other Division I programs, including Florida, Kansas, Tennessee and UConn, among several others.

With 10 seniors on the 2024-25 roster, Auburn will have to replace most, if not all, of them, as well as Howard.

Three recruits — Sebastian Williams-Adams, Kaden Magwood and Simon Walker — are signed to the Tigers’ 2025 class. Junior college standout Abdul Bashir also committed to the Tigers on Feb. 16, and they added their first transfer while in San Antonio, with UCF standout Keyshawn Hall joining the program.
