The old saying, "what's meant to be will always find a way," is ringing true for the Auburn Tigers as a former signee is slated to return to the program.
Jay Hardy, a defensive lineman who spent the last three seasons at Liberty, announced his intent to transfer to Auburn over the weekend. Hardy joined Auburn's 2020 signing class as a four-star defensive lineman and the No. 3 overall player from Tennessee in the cycle. Hardy joined several key playmakers such as Tank Bigsby, Kobe Hudson, and Jeremiah Wright by signing with Auburn during the 2020 recruiting cycle.
Hardy departed Auburn after one season on the Plains, where he played in two games, totaling 12 snaps during the 2020 season. After redshirting in 2021, Hardy played 34 games for the Liberty Flames over the last three seasons, including the 2022 season under current Auburn head coach Hugh Freeze.
The Chattanooga, Tennessee native played in seven games last season, making three starts. He totaled seven tackles with one tackle for loss and a pass deflection. His best season came in 2023 when he logged 31 tackles with five TFL and two sacks. According to Pro Football Focus, he created 20 pressures in 372 snaps on the Flames' defensive line.
Hardy is the second player to announce his transfer to Auburn since the spring transfer portal window opened on April 16, joining former Maryland linebacker Caleb Wheatland. The duo joins a stellar transfer portal class that ranks No. 7 nationally according to 247Sports.
