HAMAMTSU -- Australia defeated Brazil 83-77 to open Group C of the 2006 FIBA World Championship.

Mark Worthington led the Aussies with 23 points and 7 rebounds. Andrew Bogut had 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Brazil had the lead in the final quarter but Australia managed to score 27 points to get the win.

Leandrinho had 18 points and Tiago 16 in the loss.

If you're curious, Mark Worthington is a 6'8" forward who played for Metro State, a Division II team where he earned Division II All American honors. He's returned to Austrialia to play basketball for Sidney.

Apparently his impact did not go entirely unnoticed. His coach was Mike Dunlap, who was just added as an assistant coach by the Nuggets.
