My guess is that Mathieu wasn't on the vast majority of draft boards. And that's what makes using such a high 3rd rounder on him so questionable to me.

They had D.C. in the 3rd round...wow.

Yeah... That's interesting. Good catch.

I think that this is/should be enlightening to guys who wonder what the Cards' "Top 200" board actually looks like. Teams absolutely draft for need, and screen out players they don't need or won't be worth the additional draft capital.

But, on the other hand, when was the last time the Cowboys had a great draft?

It only takes one other team that thought highly of Mathieu to upset the Cards plans.

They also had Cooper ahead of Warmack and Minter ahead of Teo. They also had both of our RBs as possible 4th rounders. Also noticed that neither Swope or Mathuei made their board.

True. But while we don't know for sure, I can't help but to have my doubts that one team wouldn't have used a day two selection on him.

IMO, given that he sat out all last year, was just arrested in October, and is a tad below 5'9", he might have even been undrafted like another talented questionable character guy is WR DaRick Rogers (who even played last year). Bengals, Rams, and Cardinals were probably the only teams that had him on their draft board.

But, no need crying over spilled milk.

Didnt there draft board leak a few years back as well, or was that another team?

Anyways they ranked their 1st round pick as a 2nd rounder.

Interesting none the less.

They seemed pretty "risk-free" on their board. Neither Mathieu (off-field risk) nor Swope (on-field risk) made their board that we took. And yet they even take more busts than us. LMAO
I'm really looking forward to the RB battle in camp this year.
I don't see it being much of a battle really. I think Taylor will play more downs, but Ellington will still see a lot of time. Just depends on the play

CARDSARZ, thanks for a very interesting read. My take:
Good news and bad news. First the good news. The Cowboys really liked our draft picks, especially considering that Swope (injury concern) and Mathieu (character concern) weren't on their list. And now the bad news. IMO, under Jerry Jones, the Cowboys are a TERRIBLE drafting team.

What I find hilarious is the way the board was leaked. It wasn't leaked at all. Some guys on their message board reconstructed it based on videos taken from inside the war room on day 1 tv draft coverage. Doh! And the same thing happened in 2010. Double doh! What the hell? Was Jerry completely unaware of what happened in 2010? Or did he know about 2010, but too out of touch to find out what really happened? Or is he just so narcissistic that he leaves the board up there so the rest of the world can see what a genius he is?

but that's exactly it. It was never clarified if it was intentionally leaked. It was leaked through the allowance of so many shots of it in their attention-starved videos. Year after year

That is some serious detective work. I love it!

Someone spent weeks putting that together...well done I say

then again it's a cowboy fan....so ...how smart can he be

Was it a Cowboys fan who did it? This is the second time in 4 years this has happened. I call into question if it was a fan. For some weird reason that only the Cowboys would know, I think it was the Cowboys who leaked this information. Otherwise they are just plain idiots for this to happen for a second time in 4 years.

It probably is the Cowboys who did it. Great for them, really. Excellent sharing of information with their fans whilst maintaining plausible deniability. Also, it gets the message out to certain draftees that they were desired by the "Star."

I would also think that it could sour some draftees based on their grades.

Maybe, but if the 'Boys didn't like a player in the draft process, it's unlikely--in this draft class in particular--that there's a guy that comes out of nowhere and become a star that didn't appear on that board.
