Having guffawed at the DBack's attempt to sell me tix for 'as many as 10 postseason home games' I was delighted to get my letter from AZFL - will buy my pass, up a bit from last year, but well worth it.

Unfortunately, due to renovations, Scottsdale Stadium is not being used this year - that's a real quick run from home, unlike Mesa, Peoria, or Surprise - Phx Muni is the fourth one. And my Scorps are all the freakin way out in Surprise! What a drag! Guess I'll make it to fewer home games than 'away' this year.

League play starts October 4th, goes through Nov 12th.

Says Phx will also host a 'sub-Olympic qualification tournament' for the 2008 Olympics Nov 15-20 with USA, Canada, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, El Salvador, Guatemala. Games are included in the AZFL pass.

Arizona Fall League: The Diamondbacks will have eight players participating in this year's Arizona Fall League, five of whom were announced when league rosters came out on Tuesday.

Drew, pitchers Casey Daigle and Bill Murphy and outfielders Jarred Ball and Alex Frazier will be on the roster of the Phoenix Desert Dogs.

The Diamondbacks also have an infield spot to fill, another position player spot and a pitcher they can add. It's possible that catcher Miguel Montero, who has been tearing up Double-A , could be the position player added, but because of league rules, the Diamondbacks would need to get permission from his Venezuelan Winter League team.

Desert Dogs!? We've always been the Scorpions! Wow - well, that's fine with me, except for my well-worn scorps' cap - I'd much rather have them at Phx Muni. Thanks for the update. This is far from a fixed Roster, of course - last year there were several last-minute changes made.

There are also rumors of a 4 week instructional league either in Tucson or around here for Sept., mainly with our rookie and low-A ball guys, but it may not come to fruition this year.

Infielder Dan Uggla has been added to the roster. The Dbacks still have two spots to fill. The list certainly isnt as exciting as last year's, is it? Im surprised Chris Carter isnt going, I thought he would have been a lock. The only thing I can think of is if he plays in a winter league?

He's extremely one-dimensional - he hits. Period. Otherwise feet and hands of stone, apparently.

The rules have changed so that guys with a year of playing time can still participate - there will be a few top-level repeats like Rickie Weeks and Prince Fielder. I was wondering why not Carlos Quentin since he was scratched with a bad back last year. Heck, put in Conor and let him keep working on defense at first.

From what Ive read and seen, Carter's bat is indeed all he has, but I believe that he has a higher chance to get to the majors than guys like Uggla and Frazier. I would have liked to see what he could do against the AZFL pitching. The Dbacks still have an OF slot open I think, so maybe Quentin is in the cards. They also have another pitching slot, I wouldnt mind seeing Nippert get it. I know he has already been to the fall league two years ago, but he could really benefit from getting in some more action as he continues his already successful post-Tommy John surgery campaign. Nippert this year has very rapidly reclaimed his title as possibly the top pitching prospect in the organization.

What is taking mlb.com so long to update their AFL page?

Hohokam Stadium's page has a schedule, but I can't get it to load.

:frustrated:

Went to the Dogs' first game tonight. Stephen Drew went 3 for 4 with a walk, a homer, an rbi, and 2 runs, and Dogs were up 12-4 when I left top of the ninth. Hustled to beat out a groundball, keeping the inning alive, and looked fine defensively, too.

Miggy Montero IS on the roster - he got put in around the 7th inning, and in his first at bat, got plunked - looked like the ribs - and ended up coming around to score.

Went to the Solar Sox game last night (vs the Rafters). Good game, tied at 4 until a top-of-the-9th 3 run homer. Rafters won 7-4.

10/08/05 Final R H E
Phx Desert Dogs 16 17 2
Gr Canyon Rafters 8 11 1

W: R. Basner (1-0, 0.00); L: E. MacLane (0-1, 31.50 -ooof!);
HR: PDD: S. Drew (3), J. Ball (1), A. Frazier (1), M. Montero (1). GCR: E. Duncan 2 (2), C. Lambin (1).

Wow! Wish I'd made this game. A home run for each Babyback position player! And Dan Uggla, who for some reason is playing for the Peoria Javelinas, had hit three in his past 3 games.

Nice to see that the early indications are that Drew is getting back on track.

Miggy Montero is back on track, too -

Player Pos . . AB R H rbi HR
J. Ball, CF-LF 4 2 1 1 2 1 .375 - HR (2), SB
S. Drew, SS 6 2 3 3 0 2 .556 - 2B, HR (3)
M. Montero, DH 6 1 3 6 0 1 .455 - HR (2)

Desert Dogs have 4 evening home games this week - Tues, Weds, Fri, and Sat. 7 PM, Phx Muni.

If you have never made it to an AZFL game, here's your chance. It is, as Huston Street said, "The best baseball ever."

See you there!

Desert Dogs play evening games at Phx Muni tonight and Saturday, and Mon at 1 PM also. You ought to try to catch a game - there's no guarantee Drew will start - he seems to go alternate games - but it's good baseball.
