Funny how things have turned around.. Suddenly the DBacks and the Cards are looking to have promissing times ahead.. and the Suns are going in the other direction. Complete change of roles in Arizona.

I'll be more worried if Blanks gets an extension.

On my list of things that could make this organization suck even more, this was near the top.

Babby is kind of ok I guess. He made some bad moves, some good moves.. I guess we could have an even worse GM.

Banks is the worst clearly or at least appears to be.

As some have mentioned, not terribly concerned Babby's contract was extended. I just hope Blanks is let go and he can take his boy Hunter with him.

We are in agreement.

IMO, Blanks has been a disaster as the Suns GM and the defense under coach Hunter (supposedly where he excels) appears worse. I can live with Babby if he can cut ties with Blanks and Hunter.

While I agree I think this move is an outlier to giving Hunter the permanent gig and sticking to Blanks' "vision". Really the only thing that would change my mind is if the Suns go out and hire one of the Van Gundy's. Not only do I think they are both quality coaches, but neither are afraid to voice dissenting opinions. However it appears they'd rather rely on their cronie network to toe the company line.

On the bright side maybe the Suns can be bad enough next year to be in the running for Wiggins.

Babby is the least of the front office problems.

I wouldn't go that far, he is the one the hired Blanks and rubber stamped all the other moves even if he didn't come up with them himself.

I never said he wasn't A problem, just that he was the least of them. Between him, Sarver, Blanks and Hunter, who do you think is the least problem?

Hmm

I'd say

1. Blanks
2. Babby
3. Sarver
4. Hunter

Hunter is not a problem at all, he is a henchman to ride out the season without comitting to anyone.

I don't see Hunter getting an extension.

Some heads need to roll this offseason to appease the fans and I would have to think it will be possibly Blanks and very likely Hunter.

If the Suns stick with Blanks "vision," there is no hope. He needs to go. Then let the new GM (hopefully very qualified) select a new HC. The Suns problems are deeper than living on the hope they can draft a player like Wiggins although he would be a great prize. The Suns just aren't lucky in these matters. I'm open to hire a Van Gundy or perhaps someone from the San Antonio coaching staff like Mike Budenholzer who has Arizona ties.

The guy with the interim in his title. I'll guess we'll see how big a problem Babby is if he retains Blanks.

Who is the real driving force behind this "refuse to be bad, thrive for mediocrity" thing though?

Is it Sarver, Babby or Blanks?

Sure hope we won't spend money on the likes of Iguodala or Josh Smith to maybe win 35 games next year and miss out on a chance to draft Wiggins. We are clearly too far away from even competing for the playoffs unless you could sign a truly special franchise player.
We are 3 games behind the 2nd worst teams in the West and they are much younger than us. I guess next year we could be better than Sacramento and Minnesota if we try.

bingo. the guy dubbed Blanks his "basketball genius" which IMO makes Babby an idiot.

Suns=San Diego Clippers

I'm beginning to embrace that reality. The only difference is the Clippers never had any legacy. They were always a team with a cheap owner looking for a fanbase. They were never so bad that they destroyed a quality organization.

Look at the Bulls between Jordan and Rose. Bad era's are part of the NBA cycle.

Happened to Sacramento as well. The Suns in their history lucked out big time several times getting a top player (KJ, Kidd, Amare) somehow when they were about to hit rock bottom.

I don't really think Sarver is the problem anymore, we have so many ex-employees who could have jumped at the chance to bash Sarver but nobody has really ever done it. He made cost-cutting trades that were bad for the Suns but we still paid a lot of salaries compared to average NBA teams. The reality is that teams like OKC traded away a player like James Harden to avoid the tax.

That is why we never had a #1 pick. Bryan Colangelo was not any better, he made so many bad moves. Babby looks like a messiah compared to what Colangelo has done to the Raptors.

Jerry was/is an excellent promoter, businessman and behind-the-scenes politician -- a key member of the Phoenix 40 who ran the Valley back in the day.

But despite the fact that he was our General Manager, he was not in the upper crust of pure GM's. And he, of course, molded his Phoenix Son, Bryan, who is nowhere near the leader that Jerry was/is.
