The season starts over today. If this team cam get 5 or 6 games over 500 when Johnson and Schilling come back they are in great shape. The hitting is coming together, ut we need to stick with the young players. When the pitching is healthy the starting five should be Johnson, Schilling, Batista, Webb, and Good. Put Dessens in the bullpen with Myers, Koplove, Mantie, and Villareal. Valarde is the only wildcard. Do we send him down to close at AAA in case Mantei gets hurt again, so he can come right back into that role, or do we stay with him as the closer. I alson thing Hammock and Cintron do not see the minors agian this season. You reslease Wolmack when Consoul and Hillenbrend and Spivey get healthy and Hommock becomes the everyday right fielder The outfield should be Gonzo, Finley, Hammock, with the infield being Hillenbrand-Cintron-Spivey-Consoul platoon between second and third and shortstop, and Overbay at first.

Valverde is here to stay. I think Orpesa could be put on the DL and Kata will most likely be sent down. I believe the Diamondbacks will make a trade for an outfielder and Mantei could be the one they trade. There are many teams out there in need of a closer.

i say we get the best possible prospects for mantei. we're in great shape if we're healthy. i think we can also get a prospect or something for womack, who's been playing well of late. on the other hand, it might not be so bad to keep him. he does hit extremely well in the clutch, and we can use him as a pinch runner. i think what we really need is a big time bat. we already have plenty of quality small-ball players, we just need an *ehem*durazo type of guy who just mashes the ball. maybe we could make a run at beltran?

our pitching should be right up there with the dodgers when the time comes...oh, and patterson's stinking up the place. he needs to get things in order, fast.

I agree with Hammock in RF, on sundays most def. Delluci and Batista can platoon but RF will be our only weekness when our big guns get back. If Toronto was out of it i would say trade for Shannon Stewart, who else is out there at RF?

I wonder if the Mets would trade Cliff Floyd? I also think if John Patterson does not pitch well he could be sent down to Tucson. Hopefully John can pitch a good game today.

Whoa. We might be able to get something for Mantei but my guess is his injury problems will scare people away.

Schilling, on the other hand, would bring a lot in return.

I'm not one of those who thinks we have a chance to make the playoffs this year. This is a .500 team. Too little speed, too little offense, too many schuffles just to field a competitive unit.

Watching these kids play is blast. I hope we continue the rebuilding by trading Schilling for at least two outfielders with power.

Schilling will not be traded... aside from his no trade contract, in which he has stated there are very FEW teams he would even consider, he helps put butts in the seats.. yes we could get quite a bit for him, but no one is going to show up just cuz Kata is in the lineup.

Skkorp - you really confound me - Are you telling me a team which is one year removed from a WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP and last year had a 100 win season AND hasn't played with arguably the two most dominant pitchers in the game healthy for the entire season AND started 3-11, but has scratched it's way back over .500 in a division where the Dodgers historically make their run in May, June and July and the Giants have coasted off their torrid start AND will be getting the best two pitchers in baseball back along with a .300 hitter who has pop in his bat doesn't garner your beilief in them

BUT

You actually believe that the Cards - with the most horrendous offseason in recent memory (ask anyone who covers football outside of Cardinal fans - along side realistic Cardinal fans) actually have a chance to be a .500 team?

AND You want to trade Schilling? This team's youth is showing that next year - probably the last year for us - is the last hurrah - but who knows - pitchers these days pitch into their late thirties and early forties and are still dominant

Man - that just don't make sense to me - unless it's the whole thing of Colnagelo's teams not allowing ASFN the same type of access the Cards do - maybe that explains the favoritism.:D

Too many wins, too many games over .500, too little space separating us from first :)

Let's just keep playing the Reds and the Astros!

Your wish is granted...for the next 3 games that is. The Dbacks just need 2 of 3 this series. A sweep would be great but win the series first, then worry about the sweep IMO. The Dbacks cannot expect Wagner to have the same problems he had in HOU so it is imperative, IMO, for them to get into the lead and hold and not hope/expect another late inning comeback.

Great...they're still going to have to figure out a way to solve the Dodgers and Giants if they are serious about making a move. I think they are 3-8 so far against those teams this year.

I agree. In fact, they will need to be on their toes against Colorado and San Diego too. Every game in division will be important since all the NLW teams will be beating on each other. Solving the Dodgers and Giants tough? You are dead on. That will be critical.

Starting the end of this month, the Dbacks go on a monthlong swing through the division. This will be an important time for them to...at a minimum...keep pace. Better yet, they can make up more ground and really apply the pressure the last 2 months of the season.
