Hey Brian - I got a question for you and Renz - and I preface it by saying this - no matter what the Suns did in order to win a Title I would still root for them - so saying that - I just wonder what it's like rooting for this Lakers team - is there a lot of joy involved in it? Most of my best friends out here in los Angeles who have been die-hard Laker fans since I've known them care so little about this team - they always hated Malone with a ferocious passion and feel sick that he's going to get a title - and they all loved the Payton signing before he was shown to be a baby and basically ineffective after the first 20 or so games. Is there a lot of joy in watching this team for you this season? Especially with all that's gone on with Shaq demanding 30 million dollars even though he still has two year left on his current contract and hasn't been SHAQ for two years now and with all Kobe Bryant's legal/marital affair problems? This is not meant to be a dig or anything like that - like I said above - if the Suns were in this position - especially having never won a Title I'd be pretty stoked - but having won titles with a real Laker Team for three years and having watched Showtime - what's it like watching THIS team?

It can't be compared to Showtime when it was LA versus Boston. Those were the halcyon days of being a Laker fan.

I still like Shaq, but I'm not much of a Kobe fan like I used to be, although I still think he is one of the best players in the NBA. I've never liked Payton much, but I always respected Malone, if for no other reason than he always spoke his mind and played hard.

What can I say, though, I still root for them like mad because they are my team and always have been. I've bled purple and gold my whole life. I grew up in So. Cal. and the Lakers are the only NBA team I have ever cared about.

It definitely isn't as fun as the '70's and '80's, but it's a heck of a lot better than the Dunleavy/Pfund/Harris/ Rambis/Magic (the coach) days.

I imagine now if the Rams won the Super Bowl next year or this board was around when the Cowboys were winning Super Bowls and then they came to a Cardinals board and talked **** - what would you call them? I think we all know what the answer is - personally Renz - I know you've been on this board for a while in other places - but do you really believe that this is an NBA forum as opposed to the Cardinals forum being only for Cards? Seems like a bit of a contradiction to me.

Maybe the haters come out because WE ALL HATE the Lakers because they are the Suns biggest rivals - even though the Laker fans don't really see the rivalry - just like the rivalry between the Cards and Dallas or the Rams - and you do notice that the primary emphasis is PHOENIX SUNS forum - right Brian? Give me a break dude - you berate people as trolls all the time who come to the Cards board and DO EXACTLY what you do here - hell - you even rag on Cards fans that aren't apparently "as good as you are" (Wild Card -for example) - how does that make it different? actually I think the Suns never being able to beat the freaking Lakers takes the fun out of the rivalry. I don't see the need for people to attack personally though - you're right there - but it is a message board and there's all faceless shapes and sizes here - whatevs.
