A Benton County (Wash.) District Court Judge on Thursday ordered a probation violation hearing Dec. 3 for Wally Backman.
He could face jail time if a judge determines that Backman violated his 2001 probation stemming from a conviction for driving under the influence, said Josie Delvin, Benton County District Court administrator.
Backman could not be reached for comment about the hearing. Delvin said Friday that Backman's attorney will be notified of the hearing.
Delvin said she notified Judge Holly Hollenbeck of the possible violation after media inquiries this week brought up Backman's December 2002 harassment conviction in Crook County, Ore.
That misdemeanor came from an October 2001 incident in Prineville, Ore., Backman's off-season home. Backman reportedly was intoxicated, broke down the door to his home and threatened his wife, according to statements in a police report.
Delvin said a condition of Backman's five-year probation in Benton County was that he have "no violations of criminal law."
Delvin said when Backman pleaded guilty in January 2001 to the DUI charge, he had served one day in jail and the remaining 364 days were suspended as long as he committed no new crimes.
The DUI occurred in June 1999, when Backman was manager of the minor league Tri-City Posse, Delvin said.
