I hate Fox Sports. I don't understand why they would not want ESPN to cover the Pac-10? This could hurt recruiting, especially for the schools who don't have much basketball tradition. Lots of recruits want to be on ESPN. Also, it looks like the Pac-10 tournament will stay at Staples. I wish they would rotate the site every year.

Pac-10, Fox Sports extend basketball pact through 2012

advertisementSunday night Pac-10 games will become more common under an extension of FSN’s rights deal through the 2011-12 season that was announced Thursday.
Fox Sports Net has the rights to 56 Pac-10 Conference games each season, with the right to sell them to over-the-air networks such as CBS and ABC. It also sells the Pac-10 Tournament final to CBS.
FSN president Bob Thompson said Thursday the network plans no major changes, except to place about five games on Sunday nights once the NFL season ends. The games will follow FSN’s national ACC game of the week.
“We had discussions with the Pac-10 about being more flexible in the starting times and dates,” Thompson said. “We’re not going to change (our coverage) entirely, but we would like to showcase the Pac-10 some on Sunday nights. There’s not a ton of other things going on so it’s a great showcase for the conference.”
Thompson said the network would also prefer to continue holding the Pac-10 Tournament at the Staples Center following the expiration of its deal next season, but is open to receiving offers from other venues.
The deal effectively continues UA’s love-hate relationship with FSN, which allows Pac-10 schools to play a convenient Thursday-Saturday schedule in most weeks but -- in the coaches’ minds -- lacks ESPN-type exposure.
“You couldn’t ask for better production and some of the stuff they do,” UA associate head coach Jim Rosborough said. “But I think our point is that some of the people we are competing against are on ESPN, which, for better or worse, is the college basketball station in America.”
“But we understand we can’t have our cake and eat it, too. I love the Thursday-Saturday schedule.”
