So I'm driving into work this morning heading north on 101. I had just drove past the Tempe Market Place and right as I crossed over the 202 I see something flying in the air towards my car. To my surprise it was a Bald Eagle.

My heart just sank. What a horrible omen. I've lived in the Valley for 12 years and have never seen a Bald Eagle down here before. I've only seen them at the Zoo and up on the Rim.

On a side note, it was an amazing bird to watch. Almost got in an accident as it flew 100 yards above the 101.

Cut that out right now and keep that to yourself.

No Bad Mojo is coming this way. That eagle is just in town to watch the game and for the good weather.

He was obviously confused and disoriented. Just like the rest of the Eagles will be on Sunday.

I don't think seeing an Eagle that is obviously lost and confused is a bad omen. That's a good omen.

To "counter" that: A Cardinal sign!!!

I was headed back from a job fair yesterday when I happened to glance to my left. There, in bold letters, on the top of a billboard read.....CARDINALS. Add to that Terrelle Smith's moms' dream and I feel pretty good about Sunday. GO CARDS! SHOCK THE WORLD!! WE BELIEVE!!! :D

He was flying for his life as there was a whole flock of angry Cardinals who had to fly all the way from up north to kick his ass right behind him.

The losingest team in baseball history is the Philadelphia Phillies, and they won the World Series. The losingest team in football history is the Chicago/St.Louis/Phoenix/Arizona Cardinals. Will they follow suit and win the Superbowl?

Didn't they have some sort of eagle at the Fiesta Bowl. Maybe he got lost afterwards.... or maybe he's just college talent level only

No worries. This is actually a good omen. Mounting evidence suggests the Arizona Bald Eagle is a genetically distinct sub-species that does not migrate or stray far.

Our eagles are a little smaller and tend to stay within Arizona and have a range extended just outside the Colorado river edges into southern Utah, southern Nevada and western southern California. With a 25 year drought, falling river levels, falling reservoir levels and rancher shootings and poisoning, the population of eagles was plummeting.

Our eagles don't migrate to feed elsewhere. They just die off. Changes in all the mentioned conditions, including public awareness and behavior, and effective nesting protection, have helped restore our eagle population rapidly.

I've seen Arizona Bald Eagles many times since 2000. Over Seven Springs near Carefree. Several times over Nelson reservoir between Springerville and Alpine. Several active nests on the Verde river between Bartlet lake and the feeder reservoir above it.

Stunning, majestic birds. Mad Card, you are lucky to have seen one over this city in winter.

Here's an omen: Some national sports guy, I think Scott Van Pelt, compared the Cardinals to the Tampa Bay Rays. This year's super bowl is in...Tampa! And the Rays manager's favorite NFL team...the Cardinals! Its all coming together!

I wasn't going to post this, but the other day I hit an eagle with my SUV while driving down the freeway.

At the time, I was thinking that this was a symbolically bad omen for the country and our on-going struggles with oil and gas guzzling cars, but now I see that this was a good thing.

No Problem, Mad -- it's a bald eagle.

A Cardinal scalped him.

Seriously dude, if you don't already have a paying gig, get one!

I had thoughts of a response of that nature, but just couldn't find the words. Yours: Perfect!

Totally a good omen. In Native American lore sighting an Eagle in the wild is a blessing. Since it was flying South it means "Happiness".

Also, FYI, red is a symbol of success and RED BEADS mean SUCCESS IN BALL PLAY.

Hmmm, maybe I should give my fiancee some red beads as a gift. ;)

If it wasn't an Arizona Bald Eagle, it could also be a good omen.

The vultures are already descending upon the greater Phoenix area, awaiting the rotten Eagles carcasses.

They know there is food around, it's not dead yet, but they can sense it and are taking to the skies. :)

Well, when I went to pick up tickets at the stadium today, there were thousands of birds flying around...you know how every so often just a crapton of them start swirling around going nuts? They weren't Cardinals, but they did have a bit of red on them, so maybe that's a good omen.
