Gary Russell is from Columbus and he was academically inelgible like you said. THe problem with him is i doubt he can spell G-a-r-y or R-u-s-s-e-l-l. He may be one of the dumbest people on the planet.

I could live with the Anderson pick with Thomas off the board. I like him better than Gaines Adams based on size and strength.

Personally I don't see a need @ DE. Obviously we have Berry, and Chike but we also have Antonio Smith who has shown ability and Calvin Pace for depth. In my opinion we have more pressing needs @ OLB and in our secondary (as well as o-line depending on what happens with Davis). If Davis leaves and Thomas is on the board @ #5 then in my opinion we have to take him. If we keep Davis then I would like to see us go with the top OLB, CB, or safety. @ this point in time there's no one @ these three postions projected for top 5 so we could trade down. Who knows maybe a one of those hybrid type outside linebackers will come up after the combine.....maybe Timmons. Either way in my opinion DE is not an immediate need on this team.

DE is a need. We have a bunch of names at DE, thats it. I agree that Smith was impressive in the absence of Berry but he's not the answer. Chike is getting old and Berry has proved to be injury prone. Also, both are aging and will be done soon (at least with the cards).

If Thomas is gone at #5, drafting a freak of nature like Jamaal Anderson or Gaines Adams would be a very good pick. Our pressure on the QB was awful most of last year and one of those 2 would change that.

Trading out of the 5th pick isn't a bad idea (only if Thomas is gone) but don't do it to get a DB. There are no standout DB's in this draft IMO and we can get a very good one in the 2nd. However, trading out of the 5th to get a guy like Nelson or Timmons would be a good idea but only if we got a 2nd to go with it. Lots of time left but I'd be very happy with either Anderson or Adams (Anderson more upside)

Unless I'm missing something, I do believe Gaines Adams is ranked higher on most of the guru's boards. His play jumped out more than any other defender i watched this year.

Only because Anderson was a junior and hadn't declared yet (draft gurus don't put undeclared juniors on their mock drafts). Now that Anderson has declared, several draft experts have him going before Adams and before our 5th pick (to Tampa). Anderson is legit and he terrorized the nations toughest conference, the SEC
