Variety has a follow-up on last week's news saying that Hannibal Rising director Peter Webber will helm the new version of Barbarella for producer Dino De Laurentiis.

"Female James Bond -- in outer space," is how De Laurentiis described the project. Barbarella will shoot at Morocco's CLA studios.

Update: Robert Rodriguez has taken over the project and Rose McGowan is set to star as Barbarella.

I never got the buzz on the original I guess maybe at that time it was considered risque?

I always liked Rose McGowan but the whole Marilyn Manson thing ruined her for me.
