Barcelona star hits the 40 G/A assist mark vs Girona

Barcelona star Robert Lewandowski on Sunday evening hit a fresh milestone amid what has been a superb individual campaign to date.

Barcelona of course marked their return to action a short time ago, playing host to Catalan rivals Girona in a La Liga clash.

As things stand late in proceedings at Montjuïc, Hansi Flick’s troops find themselves headed towards a 2nd three-point haul in the space of just three days.

This comes owing to a 3-1 advantage on the scoreline.

And it is the aforementioned Robert Lewandowski who as things stand is set to prove himself match-winner.

After Girona managed to claw their way back on level terms early in the 2nd-half in Catalunya’s capital, Lewandowski’s veteran goalscoring instincts shone through when needed most.

First, the Pole put Barcelona back in front courtesy of a clever close-range finish just beyond the hour mark, before doubling his tally for the clash with a trademark right-footed strike late on.

And as alluded to above, in the process, Lewandowski secured for himself an altogether noteworthy benchmark.

Despite being 36 years of age, the former Bayern Munich man has now broken the 40-mark for combined goals and assists in all competitions this season (41).
