SIZZLIN'
We had this little chin-wag with Charles Barkley the other day in anticipation of his big weekend.

As you may know, Barkley will be inducted Saturday into the Suns' Ring of Honor. There's a big bobblehead night Friday, too, although we kind of like the suggestion that Fox Sports Net's Kevin McCabe made - a bobblebutt night for Barkley.

Anyway, as you'd expect, Barkley dropped a bombshell.

You may recall we joked last week that Barkley and buddy Michael Jordan would make nice co-owners for the Suns, who have the for-sale sign out.

But Barkley doesn't look at the idea as a joke, at least not from his standpoint as a potential buyer.

"I would love to buy the Suns," he said.

Talk about changing the level of interest.

Think of whom Barkley could bring in as partners - Jordan, Tiger Woods, Magic Johnson.

They'd be a regular Four Horsemen of the Metropolis.

But Barkley also is realistic. It ain't going to happen, and not because Barkley will run for governor in Alabama.

For starters, he's not sure the team is worth as much the $300 million-plus price tag that has been reported.

Second, if he did put together an investment group, he said he wouldn't be willing to allow Chairman Jerry Colangelo to continue to run the team with Barkley's group having the option to take control at some point in the future - despite the relationship they have repaired.

Colangelo has hired Lehman Brothers to try to broker such a deal.

"They're worth about $250 million to $270 million," Barkley said. "I could come up with the $300 million, but Jerry couldn't hang around five or six years. I don't think that would be fair. He either has to sell it or not sell it.

"Nobody is going to give him that kind of money unless they have control. Nobody wants to do that.

"He could sell it tomorrow if he just says, 'Somebody give me $300 million.' "

Michael Jordan, Charles Barkley, Magic Johnson and Tiger Woods? Those 4 icons leading the Suns? WOW

That would be crazy.

The best golfer of all time and one of the richest sport stars in the world.

Slinslin, a guy named P. T. Barnum had a saying about you. No matter how fanciful and absurd a rumor concerning the Suns is, you find some reason to get enthusiastic behind it.

Yeah, cause you know having MVP's as owners automatically makes the players on our team MVPs too!

The reporters would just love having Sir Charles as an owner. He can give more clever and outrageous statements in 10 minutes than any other owner would make in a year.

Now as to whether this would help the team......

the problem with sir charles as an owner of the suns would mean that he would set a new record of being fine by the nba.

I love how Charles Barkley is now able to accurately assess the value of any NBA franchise. Even tries to sound like he knows what he's talking about.
