Gambo's rant misses mark
Barry Smith
Former Coyotes associate coach
Apr. 19, 2007 12:59 PM
The recent article written by John Gambadoro on the azcentral.com Web site concerning my being "despised" by the Coyotes players and my being in over my head is incredulous, and his negative comments concerning Wayne Gretzky's management abilities and coaching abilities are far from the truth.
How can a journalist write anything about the nuts and bolts of a management team or players without visiting the locker room or talking to the people inside the room on some kind of weekly basis? Gambadoro was never around the team or spoke to the team or coaches.
Yes, our season results were poor, but with the losing there was improvement and also a direction for the future of this team's foundation, which to me is more important than just missing the playoffs.
I feel that the management, with Wayne's insight, now has a plan of action which was not apparent before the last two seasons.
I believe the ownership and Wayne have found a common plan of action which will pay off in the near future with a stronger foundation in which to build upon.
Gotta love how Gambo claims that a guy with five Stanley Cup rings as an assistant coach is in over his head. Maybe if Gambo took the time to do anything other than just mindlessly rant, he'd know that.
