Any member of the BBWA should be ashamed of themselves - and if they truly cared about child abuse, would immediately resign from it.

Sports writer Bill Conlin "retired" today, after child sex abuse charges from girls and boys in the 1970's came to surface - -including his own niece.

The BBWA released this statement: "The allegations have no bearing on [Conlin's] winning the 2011 J.G. Taylor Spink Award, which was in recognition of his notable career as a baseball writer."

Let me first say in my opinion I think he is guilty of the allegations but he is innocent until proven guilty. Just think of the Duke lacrosse players who were charged with raping that girl and almost all of the media had them prosecuted before they could even prove their innocence.

Sorry but integrity flew out of the park in baseball a couple of decades ago. I'm not surprised at all that they dont care enough to take his award away.

If proven guilty, his award wont do him any good in prison so oh well...

Totally different situation...They can't vote him in, because he's not eligible to be voted on. If/When Rose is reinstated to MLB, they will vote him in a heart beat. Count on it.

That's a fine and patient opinion, but the BBWA said it has no bearing whatsoever. That's entirely different.
