Batting title etc question

What happens when a guy gets traded from one league to the other in regards to his position in the stat rankings?

Say a guy is leading the AL in batting average the day before the trade deadline and then gets traded to the NL where he continues to hit for an average that would win the AL title.

Only the AL plate appearances count towards winning the AL title. The player would also need 502 plate appearances in the AL to be eligible for the award, which is nearly impossible to do if he's traded before the July deadline.
