Matt Nagy is getting back to his Arena Football League roots with the Chicago Bears. He knows that talented players slip through the cracks, so he’s taking a chance on one of the other league’s best. The Bears signed AFL Rookie of the Year Malachi Jones on Thursday, releasing undrafted free agent rookie wide receiver Matt Fleming. Jones led the Arena League with 1,156 receiving yards in 12 games, and his 29 total touchdowns were second most. He has the potential to be a diamond in the rough, but he’ll already be playing from behind as a late addition to the team. If he can translate his AFL success to the NFL, he could earn a practice squad spot and develop into something greater down the line.
