The Mets should not trade Jacob deGrom because of this, but this needs to be understood near the beginning of one of the most important months in their history: “He will be a depreciating asset after July 31 because he can’t pitch any better and his service time [until free agency] goes down. Plus, there is no one like him in the market. No one even close. They can get a boatload for him.” Those words were offered by a top executive of a contender (not from the Yankees).
