I plan to post a page on the BRS that quotes those members of the media who have said nice things about the Cardinals during the period since January. Also quoting the naysayers.

Example - On Total Access, when asked which teams did the most to improve during the offseason, Rod Woodson answered: "Arizona Cardinals." Terrell Davis expressed amazement: ("Arizona Cardinals???") Woodson: "They could win 12 games this season."

Woodson becomes "Believer #1." Davis becomes "Nay Sayer #1."

Problem is: I have a lousy memory. Help me out. If you can document a member of the media who trashed the Cardinals (preferably accompanied by a quote), please post it on this thread. Ditto those who said nice things.

When we go deep into the playoffs, it will be fun to remind people of the Believers & Naysayers Page and repost a linky here.

Pete Prisco, Sportsline, 5 things article:

"Arizona will be a good team. Coach Dennis Green has them moving in the right direction. There is talent, young talent, and with Kurt Warner running the offense the Cardinals will put up points. Arizona is ready to make a push to win the division title. One thing about Green's teams in the past, they played with a swagger. This one does, too. That's what you get from young teams. They play cocky. And that's a good thing. Do not let this team gain more confidence as the season moves along, or it might do more than just win the division title."

The Believers and Naysayers page (which looks pretty barren right now) has been added to the BRS.

I need specific examples (there must be many from Boivin and Bordow). I already added to the BRS page an excerpt from ImaCaFan's Prisco quote.

The quotes most likely to come back and haunt the people who said them figure to be those evaluating the the quality of the team and its players - and how they figure to do during the season.

(Note - Quotes that go after the Bidwills or Dennis in a more personal manner won't work all that well because there's no way that the reality of the upcoming season can hold the people who said it accountable).

Count Paul Attner of the Sporting News as a non beleiver

he believes that Warner is done and that will be benched within 6 games (all per the radio)

and dont forget Jim Gintonio of the Republic for his snide "same ole Cardinals" take last week

and I am guessing Jeff that you put Rick Reilly in position number 1 for the naysayers

and this is a great idea BTW

Special to Page 2

So let's take a look at some of the key games from each week of the 2006 NFL schedule
Week 4
Arizona at Atlanta -- The league's two most mobile quarterbacks go head-to-head. WTF whose our Quarterback?

Chicago at Arizona -- "Monday Night Football" comes to Arizona. Apparently the NFL is intent on making it crystal clear that MNF isn't the showcase game anymore.

Arizona at Green Bay -- It's the midpoint of the season, so by now Edgerrin James will have come to the cruel realization that he actually did sign with the Cardinals in the offseason.

Detroit at Arizona -- With the excitement of opening a new stadium long since over and the lowly Lions in town, look for the Cardinals to be back to drawing their usual crowds of 40 to 45. (Not including players' friends and family members, of course. Let's be fair here.)

1. Who's DJ Gallo? (More important - will he turn out to be red, white or rose? Or maybe Maddog 20-20)?

2. Thanks for the info - I've addred Gallo's comments to the Naysayer/Believers Page.

Cardinals messed up by signing Edge
March 12, 2006
Vinnie Iyer; Sporting News

"The Cards certainly got our attention with James' big name, but the Vikings, the other team that was desperately seeking out a veteran starting running back this offseason, fared better with landing the lesser-known name of Chester Taylor."

Under the Radar

Arizona Cardinals

Last year, they were the trendy pick to win the NFC West, but the "experts" were simply a year early in touting this team. I began hyping this squad as my "sleeper" team before they signed Edgerrin James. His addition only increases the likelihood of a rare winning season for the Arizona Cardinals.

This team possesses much of what I look for when searching for under valued teams: blossoming young talent, the ability to score points in bunches, a relatively weak schedule, and Kurt Warner at quarterback. Okay, so I made that last one up, but I still really like all the young studs on this roster. The talent level, coupled with the fact they play in the NFC West, should produce a playoff berth at the very least.

Kudos for thinking of this thread Jeff

Add this one: Keith Olberman on the Dan Patrick show a day or two after Edge signed said this about Edge, "He'll be ssoooorrrryyy". He said it in that Grandma way, you know the "I told you so" tone. He made it clear that he thought Edge was out for one thing only and that's cash. He said in no uncertain terms that this was a big mistake.

He went on to say, and this is not a direct quote I'm paraphrasing, "Top free agents who sign with Arizona wish they had never done so. It's a sure way to end your career..."

I wanted to call the show to A) make a bet that he'd eat his words and B) ask him what top free agent signings in the past he was referring to? I've followed the team before free agency began and can't remember a TOP free agent ever signing with the Cards so who in the hell was talking about?

I'm sure he's talking about Emmitt..1 FA out of 1000's and he remembers that one...he's an idiot, it's easy to pile on the underdog. BUT we have to start winning to end comments like this

Tiki Barber, on his Sirius NFL Radio Show "The Barber Shop", said that the Cardinals made some great moves in the off season. The signing of Kendrick Clancy was an excellent move. He also said G & G played the Edge thing perfectly, being very hush hush about the whole thing and next thing you know, he is a Cardinal. He also said that Edge will love the state of Arizona and that it is an awesome place to live.

I dont think he does. I am guessing just the reputation the Valley has among professional athletes.
