Bell Fluid -- On and Off the Court

If Wednesday was any indication, Head Athletic Trainer Aaron Nelson might have to consider adding them to all his pre-game treatments.
Twenty-four hours after hitting Banner Good Samaritan for an intravenous drip to counteract the effects of the flu, Raja Bell was not only back in a Suns uniform, he was firing on all cylinders vs. the Rockets. The guard scored 20 or more points for the fourth time in the last six games and hit his first four three-point attempts en route to the Suns’ fifth straight win, 102-91.
“Let’s put it this way,” Bell smiled, “it was in my best interest to get some IVs. I was dehydrated. I called Aaron yesterday morning and told him it was a good idea for me to go, so that’s what I did.”
After a call from Nelson, the healthcare facility was ready and waiting for Bell, making the entire visit a quick 90-minute event.
“They knew I was coming over,” he said. “I went in and they got me in and out real friendly and efficient. They didn’t make me wait around all day which was real appreciated. I was in no mood or shape to sit in a hospital.
“I feel pretty good. I was able to eat today. That was big, because once I could hold things down, I felt I would be alright.”
As for the possibility of adding a quick IV to his regular pre-game ritual of a cup of coffee, don’t expect that from the shooting guard – regardless of how well it worked for him in the early going on Wednesday.
“I got some good looks early, but I fatigued a little quicker than I normally do,” Bell said. “All and all, being sick for the past few days, I felt pretty well tonight. I’ll pass on those IVs though.”
IT TAKES AN ALL-STAR TO KNOW AN ALL-STAR
Even though his team came out on the short end of a 102-91 score, Rockets All-Star Tracy McGrady was all praise when it came to talking about his Phoenix counterpart Shawn Marion after Wednesday’s game.
“Shawn does a little bit of everything, man,” T-Mac said. “He’s a great rebounder. He’s shooting the ball extremely well, runs the floor in transition, and when you’ve got a guy like Steve Nash with the ball, all you’ve got to do is get out on the fast break and he’s going to find you. But that guy is just so athletic, that it’s unbelievable. He’s a very smart basketball player. He plays hard, he’s great defensively. He does it all.”
Trix finished up the game with 13 points, 12 boards and a game-high four blocks for the Suns, while matching up against McGrady.
FAB FIVE REUNION… MINUS A FEW
It’s been over a decade since their Michigan days, but Wednesday marked yet another one-night reunion for two members of the Wolverines’ “Fab Five” from the early ‘90s. While Chris Webber, Ray Jackson and Jimmy King were not in the building, former college teammates Juwan Howard and Jalen Rose most definitely were.
“I think Jalen’s a great acquisition for this franchise because he has a very high basketball IQ,” Howard said. “He’s a multi-dimensional player that can play three different positions out there on the court. I think people don’t talk about his point guard skills as much as they should, because the guy is a playmaker. He knows how to play the game. He can play at a high level. He can score. He can post up smaller guards. And he can step out and shoot the three. So when he told me he was going to sign with the Phoenix Suns, I thought that was a great move for him.”
Rose finished his night against Howard and the Rockets with seven points in seven minutes of action.
“We’ve shared some ups and downs together,” Howard added, “but when I reflect on the years we shared in college, those were some of the best years I had in my life. I truly appreciate all that Jalen did for the university, did for the team… his leadership has not only allowed him to be an excellent college player but have taken him to the level of the NBA and be a very good NBA basketball player, as well.”
