The Belmont women's basketball team played James Madison on Thursday night in what marked the Bruins' deepest run in its NCAA Division 1 history.

Belmont will take another step forward after trouncing the No. 1 seed Dukes 90-45 in the quarterfinals of the NCAA's Women's Basketball Invitation Tournament at Atlantic Union Bank Center and will advance to the semifinals.

It was the Bruins' largest margin of victory this season.

Belmont (25-12), a No. 3 seed, will face No. 4 Villanova (21-14) on Monday in the semifinals at Hinkle Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. The championship game will be played there on April 2.

Belmont had a much easier time defeating James Madison (30-5) than it had getting past Northern Arizona in the second round. The Bruins had to overcome a 21-point first half deficit in that game and still trailed by 16 points in the final five minutes. Belmont finished the game on a 26-6 run to win 81-80.

Against James Madison, Belmont took control early jumping to a 22-11 first quarter lead and dominated the rest of the way. The Bruins were up 40-20 at the half.

At the midway point in the third quarter Belmont went up by 40 points on a Sanaa Tripp layup and was still up 71-31 heading into the fourth quarter.

At the end of the third quarter James Madison was just 13-of-50 from the field (26.0%) and had turned the ball over 12 times. The Dukes finished 19-of-62 (30.6) from the field and with 18 turnovers.

Belmont hit a season-high 16 3-pointers in the first three quarters and finished with 18 on 39 attempts (46.2%).

Senior guard Tuti Jones led Belmont with 26 points and was 8-of-11 on 3s. Kendall Holmes scored 22 points and was 5-of-9 on 3s.

Angel Williams, who came off the bench, was James Madison's only double-figure scorer with 10 points.

It was Belmont's ninth win in its last 10 games. James Madison had won 22 or its previous 23 games. The Duke were coming off an 80-76 overtime win over Marquette in the quarterfinals.
