The San Francisco Giants are about to add the big bat they wanted to bolster their lineup in the stretch drive as they try to defend their World Series title. Carlos Beltran accepted a trade to the San Francisco Giants, leaving the New York Mets to join his new team after saying goodbye Wednesday. The deal was expected to be announced Thursday.

This, along with Stephen Drews injury, to me means the division race is over. I hope the D'backs don't trade any prospects or pieces and go into "win now" mode just to be a slightly better than mediocre team. This year has been a nice story, but I'd stress patience so we don't end up trading away future All Stars again.

With all due respect to Stephen Drew, who is a professional and a good guy, Willie Bloomquist leading off every day fills a bigger need for us than Drew batting cleanup. And his play at SS has been fine.

If only Gibson could abandon his philosophy of benching guys while they're hot, as he did with Willie today.

John MacLeod used to do that regularly when he coached our only major league team in town, the Suns. When your alloted minutes were up, you came out, no matter how hot you were.

I didn't like it in the '70's and '80's and I don't like it now.

Gibson also batted Allen low in the lineup, with no decent protection following him. Today he still came through with 3 RBI's.

And today was Miggy's turn to bat cleanup. For goodness sake, bat Allen (the lefty) cleanup between Upton and Young (the righties) and let's see what he can do in the heart of the order.

I like Gibson's fire and drive. I don't like his mis-use of players.
