I think they also had negotiations with Palmer. I read somewhere (I think it was Gil Brandt on Sporting News), that the Bengals couldn't decide on Palmer or Leftwich so the deciding factor could be who would be easiest to sign.

They are going to negotiate with several (don't be surprised if they approach Suggs either) and try to get one to agree to a favorable deal before they pick. Only makes sense. One of the three or four will agree ahead of time to a deal and then they are set.

I think they are trying to pressure Carson Palmer into signing for less for the prestige of being the top overall pick. We should all hope it works out that way as it should lower everyone else's market value.

I also think that if Palmer doesn't go #1, he could very well still be on the board when we pick....which is actually a very scary thought. I am hoping we go Defense early and often.

Go Cards!!!

Heard yesterday that Newman was #1 and Palmer is the backup plan.

Yesterday the bengals also opened contract talks with newman. It was on ESPN last night. That also surprised me.

ESPN says they are negotiating with Palmer, Leftwich and Newman just to get parameters of a deal with the intent of signing their pick prior to the draft.

About all it tells us who THEIR top 3 is.

IF Palmer is there at 6 that's when you have to seriously debate a trade down. QB's are worth so much but it's so hard to do a deal of that magnitude in 15 minutes it's almost easier to draft the player and then do the deal.

I suppose it's possible to do pre draft trade talks with certain teams that might want a QB and agree to get back to them if the QB they want is on the board at 6.

I still expect the Bengals to pick Palmer.

And, using the smokescreen method, they are actually aiming for player #4 and are using these three to try and set the market.
