Gregg Berhalter's vision for the U.S. national team started to unfold as the Americans passed the ball from side to side, played diagonal balls long and short. Gyasi Zardes's shot from about 25 yards deflected off a defender, looped over a 6-foot-5 goalkeeper and ricocheted in off the crossbar in the 81st minute, giving the U.S. a 1-0 exhibition win over Ecuador on Thursday night.
