MECHANICSBURG — Berlin Brothersvalley needed to find something deep within itself, trailing in the fourth quarter of its PIAA 2A girls basketball semifinal against Mountain View on Friday.
A tremendous defensive effort and 16 points by sophomore Coral Prosser in the fourth helped the Mountaineers rally for a 41-38 victory and a trip to the PIAA title game.
"It's amazing," said Coral Prosser. "If we can do it now when we're young, we can definitely do it when we are older. It's exciting to see where we are at now, and where we can go in the future."
Berlin (27-2) trailed 29-26 with 5:55 to go after Mountain View's Ryleigh Kilmer knocked down a three. Aubrey Sanders was fouled shooting a three and extended the lead to 31-26.

Prosser, who netted a game-high 31 points, took over. She tallied two old-fashioned 3-point plays, giving the Mountaineers a 32-31 advantage with 2:46 to go.
Mountain View's Addison Kilmer, a 6-foot-1 junior, who was the all-state Player of the Year a season ago in 1A, stopped the bleeding with a 3-point play of her own with 1:02 to go.
Berlin sophomore Elena Ritchey, who played with four fouls, held Kilmer to just four points in the first half.
The Eagles (20-5), who earned District 2 gold this year, continued to foul Prosser and send her to the line late in the game. She was 12 of 16 at the charity stripe in the fourth quarter alone.
Addison Kilmer, who finished with a team-high 20 points had a chance to force overtime with a long-distance three at as time expired, but it was not to be.
"This is unbelievable," said Berlin coach Rachel Prosser. "These girls have worked so hard all year for this. I am so proud of them and just so happy for them."
Berlin has been held in the 40s just once this season, a drubbing of Meyersdale. Berlin bested Forest Hills 38-35 in the Mountain Cat title game.
Berlin led 10-7 after one, 16-15 at the break and 25-22 at the end of three quarters. The Mountaineers were in foul trouble for the better part of the game, but they persevered with their hounding defense.
Junior Mercy Sechler came up with two steals in the fourth which led to instant offense.
"This group has played together for so long that they can rely on each other," Coach Prosser said. "They can all step up and be a leader. They know each other well.
"This group has seen the boys do it. They were young when we went (in 2019). The goal is win each play, win each quarter, win each game. Eventually, you get here. Things have to go perfect, and you have to have a little bit of luck, too."
It took all six Mountaineers who saw the floor on Friday to earn a title berth.
"I think people underestimate us because we are so young," sophomore Lexi Foor said. "We wanted to prove everybody wrong, show them what we've got and what we can do. We stayed calm and stayed together in the fourth quarter to finish the job."
The Mountaineers won their 25th straight contest. They will need one more victory to achieve the feat the program did in 2019 – capturing PIAA 1A gold – only the second PIAA team title in Somerset County history.
Berlin meets District 6 champion, Bishop McCort Catholic, a 55-53 victor over Penns Manor, in the title game at noon, Thursday, at the Giant Center in Hershey.
"We're excited to have another week together and continue preparing to do what we do well," Coach Prosser said. "There's nothing that can prepare you for stepping on that floor, but we can't wait for the challenge."
It is the third year in a row a Berlin team will play for PIAA gold. The Mountaineer boys finished state runner-up in back-to-back seasons.
