LANCASTER – It’s not very often that three high school softball teams in a 10-mile radius are regarded as the best in the state.

On Monday, the Ohio High School Fastpitch Softball Coaches Association poll was released, and it included Bloom-Carroll, Liberty Union and Lancaster.

The Bulldogs are ranked No. 1 in the state in Division III, the Lions are ranked No. 1 in Division V, and the Lady Gales are ranked No. 2 in the state in Division I.

Bloom-Carroll is 10-0, and they have an impressive resume with wins over Watkins Memorial, the Division I state runner-up in 2024, a win over Liberty Union, which won the Division III state championship a year ago, and another win against Logan Elm, a final four team in 2024.

Bloom-Carroll received six first-place votes.

Lancaster is 6-1 and received one first-place vote. The Lady Gales were regional runners-up in 2024. Their lone loss came last week against Teasy Valley.

All three teams have strong pitching. The Bulldogs are led by junior Maddi Walters, who is 6-0, and sophomore Emma Brandt is 3-0.

The Lions have three outstanding pitchers, led by junior Suzie Shultz, who helped lead the Lions to the state title a year ago, and two freshmen have also proved they are up to the task in Eden Wilson and Ryleigh Brown.

Lancaster is led by senior Ashlin Mowery, who came on in relief in the regional final loss and finished with 14 strikeouts. She has committed to LSU. Junior Kyleigh Rohr has also pitched well this season.

All three teams are expected to make strong tournament runs, with ultimate goal of ending the season in Akron at Firestone Stadium where the final four games are played.
