Bickley has an article in the Republic this morning, but I can't find a link for it on azcentral. In it, he is advocating rehiring Pat Tillman when he gets out of the army in 2005. He then goes on to say that Tillman probably won't come back here though because the thoughtless Cardinals got rid of Marmie and Plummer and that Tillman will probably go to the Rams if Marmie winds up there.

I think the expression "Talking out of both sides of your mouth" has taken on new meaning with this article.

Bickley was calling for the head of McGinnis and his staff....what a putz.

Marmie is not an NFL coordinator, he needs to go back and coach college.

I read that article also. What a joke! It seemed to me that Bickley was advocating keeping Marmie just so that we could re-sign Tillman. How ludicrous is that? He even says that it will be "an embarrassment" to the Cardinals if Tillman signs with another team. Hey, if Tillman signs wherever Marmie happens to end up, fine. He is a free agent and can do what he wants, but it will be no reflection on the Cardinals one way or the other IMO.

Bickley's credibility has finally crept into the negative zone as far as I'm concerned.

So Bickley feels we should keep Marmie and wait around and wait around and wait around - just in case Tillman wants to end his army career and return to the NFL.

As much as I love Pat, that's a pretty tiny tail wagging a pretty humongous dog.

Forget Marmie! Who the hell wants Tillman back on this team? He couldnt tackle when he was here, got burned in coverage, and frankly wasnt that good.

I comend him for his stance and patriotism, but he should stay away from football.

Exactly. Tillman was a below average starter. He was a great special teams player, but was burned on a consistent basis as a starter.

Let the Rams have him. Archeluta and Tillman would be called "The torch brothaz".:D

It's an ugly fact, but that doesn't change the point that it's a fact. Even if Tillman hadn't enlisted, he would have lost his starting job. There are too many mascots on this team as it is (with all due respect to Big Red).

THIS ONE IS FOR YOU KOC. TIM WE DID IT.
Tillman set the Cardinals record for tackles in a year in 2000 with over 220+ tackles if I recall. Here is a piece from NFL.Com about him having loyalty to the Cards

"When he set a club record for tackles in 2000 and attracted the interest of another team, the St. Louis Rams, he declined their five-year offer sheet out of loyalty to the club that had drafted him."

That's more of a testament to how awful the Cards' D-line and LBs were than anything on Tilly. If Tilly was so good, why did they draft Wilson in the 2nd round to replace him?

No one's saying that he was a bad guy, just that he was a bad player, and a liability to our defense. He was a safety who couldn't cover. Martz has never been identified as a canny estimator of talent on either side of the ball.

He had a lot of tackles ten yards off the line of scrimmage, or when he was burned in coverage.

It was also a testament to how bad the defenses were when he played here. An NFL truism (most of the time): If your strong safety is your leading tackler, you have a baaaaaad defense.

Hell he did draft the more talented, but just as flawed, Adam Archuleta.

The Rams would still be amazing, if Martz hadn't screwed up so many drafts. It's a wonder that they are still pretty good.

It is sad to baq on someone like Tillman but truth be told, he just was never very good.

I understand everyone hates Bickley, I never really gave it much thought until now. I dont hate him b/c he always rags on the Cards, I hate him now for even suggesting that bringing back Tillman to the Cards would be a good idea!

Kudos for Tillman serving his country and "giving up" millions to do so. I put that in quotes because I'll never be convinced the contract was offered AFTER Dollar Bill Bowtie knew he would turn it down and enlist.

Pat Tillman was NOT and will NOT be 4 years later a bona fide starter in the NFL. I concur with those who have already posted his deficiencies.

Bickley often writes garbage like this. He's really a poor excuse for a columnist, but what would you expect from the Repulsive?
