Just heard on nfl radio that he said thanks but no thanks. He is, however, interviewing with multiple other clubs though.
Wow. I think the club's handling of Wilks is a motivation for him not coming here. I could be wrong.
They were saying on Moday's Ringer NFL Podcast that the Cards offered full personnel control to Mike McCarthy and he said no. (This might have been on the MM thread; I didn't really want to dig in there.)
Where there is smoke, there can be fire. It could be a statement against the Cardinals firing a minority candidate after only one season. It also isn't like he doesn't have other options. If this is the cost of getting rid of Wilks, I will pay it.
I heard also that McCarthy turned down the Cards request for interview. Regardless of the candidate, this shows how bad this organization is viewed (and rightfully so, given that Keim is still employed). To lay complete blame on the coach only was a bad move.
I'm sure the Cards wanted to interview McCarthy, but im not entirely convinced that Bidwill was going to offer full control of personnel decisions. They were saying on Moday's Ringer NFL Podcast that the Cards offered full personnel control to Mike McCarthy and he said no. If the Cards reached out but he turned the offer of an interview down, does this qualify as satisfying the Rooney Rule?
This is how far BSPN has fallen. Once upon a time they were an enjoyable network to watch. It used to be on in my house almost 24/7. And now they've decided to be political and their politics takes away from the sports. Throw in the fact that their sports coverage is limited to Boston, NY, and L.A. and you have what you have. None of these so called experts even paid attention to the Cards let alone spent any time watching them. As for the bolded line above, several teams had rookie/2nd year QB's and did fine. Mayfield blew it up, Mahomes had a ridiculous year, Trubisky had a decent year, Darnold and Allen showed promise so the rookie QB line is a stretch at best.Hell, NFL Network leads off the scroll of news about the Cardinals with McCarthy turning us down. Then lists those we are interviewing. When listening to the panel talking about how unfair it was to fire Wilks, one of them referred to Wilks as a high profile minority candidate. I then knew where it was heading. No stats, no substance to the argument other than it wasn't fair. They did point to a rookie QB but it was evident they were far from knowledgeable about the situation.
