I just saw this. 12 pages. Too much to read on my phone right now. I hope most of the comments are positive as I love this deal. These are not your grandmother's Cardinals

this is such a great, great, GREAT move. Getting that difference maker in the front 7 means CC won't see as many double teams, maybe we won't have to blitz as much... so freaking stoked. It's a good day to be a Cards fan. Bring back Freeney and we could have a poor man's version of Ware/Miller... which even a poor man's version would be pretty damn awesome.

So if Chandler Jones leaves after 2016 the Cards end up with ? A BIG FREAKING ZERO.Don`t mind the trade but hate the fact the Cards got hosed by giving up a 2nd round pick. What about Chandler Jones off field issues?

After the Aaron Hernandez thing the Pats have a zero tolerance policy I'm guessing.

This trade had nothing to do with Jones dalliance with pseudo-weed. It was a business decision by the Patriots, all the way!

Lose Jones now and score a second round pick; or lose him a year later for at most a 3rd round compensatory pick. Throw in a player with potential upside, at a sorely needed position (OL); and it's no brainer.

Both teams came away liking their position in this trade!

I think it did have significance to them trading him but it's a good trade regardless of him being a headcase.

We weren't going to pick up Cooper's 11+ million option after this year, so worst case we basically risked a 2nd round pick for a better chance to win a super bowl this year. Worth it even if he leaves.

Agreed. The cards are taking a calculated risk. From what I've read it's not clear yet whether the NFL has put Jones into the drug program or not, apparently they don't have to have a conviction to do so. It's not clear if he is now in the program or not since that's not public.

I would assume the Cards did their homework and decided he's more like Honey Badger than D Wash.

great player, if he stays clean this is a great deal, especially given our history of screwing up 2nd round picks.

Steve Keim is a god!!!!!

This is an understatement.

Dude simply refuses to lose. See weakness and fix weakness, no matter what it takes.

Not 'no matter what it takes'. He fixes them but does it in a smart way. No matter what it takes is the browns thing.

Hes not leaving after 2016 unless he just sucks which o doubt. He will be franchised at a minimum
Yup. At minimum Cards will have him for 2yrs unless he completely sucks. It is a contract year, so he won't suck.

Glad Cooper is gone. Ever since I saw his interview during a Rattlers game his rookie season it was obvious he wasn't in the game mentally.

This is the biggest move yet by a Super Bowl contender this free agent period. Certainly the biggest move in our division.

Is spice illegal in the NFLPA? Because it's not in America. It's not a good indication he did it but still.

NFLPA needs to back off pot so they won't smoke spice, that stuff is horrible

Somebody probably already said this, but I heard the Pats have to decide by May if they want to pick up this $11 mil. It sounds to me like Cooper's a gonner with the Pats. Unless he does something superhuman in the next month. Or unless they really believe their new OL coach can work magic on him. Somebody was referring to him as the best FA acquisition of the off-season (the Pat's new OL coach, that is).

Hi I am back with some more news and thoughts.

People worried about Jones leaving next year need to keep in mind you now own his compensatory pick in that case so at worse you get a 4th round pick and possibly a 3rd.

So while it would be unfortunate if he walks after this year a 1 year rental on a good player in a need position to drop down from a 2nd to a 4th is fine. You will likely not get a more impactful defensive player this year and seeing as you are looking for a final push over the top if i was a fan on your team i'd say it is worth it.

Also the Pats trade Jones and sign Chris Long. The Cards trade Cooper and sign Mathis. Interesting to see both organizations have such moves lined up to fill their holes left by this trade. Some teams play checkers and some play chess.

The Cardinals seem to be a Chess player.

Interesting move by the Cardinals if Jones can steer clear of drug issues. Essentially have him this year, franchise him the following year, and then make a decision.

The deal was a 2nd round pick with Cooper being the reason the Pats didn't trade him to someone higher in round 2.

Cardinals basically drafting Chandler Jones in the second round for two years at 9.5 per year (7 and 12).

I'm good with it. Won't shock me if we trade out of the first round now. C, OG, CB, S, and DE a higher possibility now.

It's illegal in Massachusetts. I read about this story when it happened and the fear among Pats people was that merely admitting he had smoked it might be enough to get him into the drug program. There were conflicting reports that he said he thought he was buying real pot and got synthetic instead, if that were true merely admitting he tried to buy real pot could get him into the NFL drug program believe it or not. They don't need a conviction or a positive test.

But the pats were afraid since it's illegal in Mass, the NFL would consider it a violation of the drug policy and he'd now be subject to random testing.

But nobody has any idea if that's what happened because it's confidential, NFL teams apparently know, but it's not public knowledge.

Man, this news really made my day.

Especially after everyone was bitching about us not doing anything this offseason, I don't think there's a Cardinals fan out there that isn't ecstatic about this move.

The important questions:

Will he and Alex Okafor be roomies in training camp?

And who will mentor who on the fine art of obscuring facts from the public regarding pivotal events and transgressions?

MadJack Banner for Game 1:

"No Matter What it Takes"

You get me and what I meant.

No FA's available at a price that makes sense so SK not only pulls off a trade but gets a better player then was available in FA.

Gotta be honest, I was waiting all day for your analysis on the trade.
